UV Lighting Recommendations

Hi Guys and Gals,

Well, I am setting up my enclosure for a Bearded Dragon, and I think I have bought just about everything I need - except for the UV lighting (and the Bearded Dragon!!!). What do people recommended for UV lighting? The enclosure is set up for a long florescent tube, and I went to my local pet store on the weekend and they had some Repti-Glo (I think that is what they were called) 2.0's. I don't know why, but my instinct said that number was too low. Was I right?

By the way, my enclosure measurements are 832mms long X 482mms high X 450mms wide, and the flouro tube length is 600mm.

Thanks for your ongoing help people. Newbies really appreciate it,
Younge

8 or 10.

make sure the beardie can get within 6-8 inches of it for optimal UV exposure.

Hello

Hello,

Definitely a reptisun 10. I would keep the light around 10 inches. We are seeing some eye problems with some of the flourescents being too close. It can cause swelling of the corneal region & irritations. The 10 puts out decent UVB at 8-10 inches.
How is the enclosure coming along?

The enclosure is coming along really well. Just waiting for my license to come through now, and then I will get my Beardie that I have on order.

I'll hunt down a Repti-sun 10.0 this weekend hopefully. I don't think they had any at the pet store I went to last weekend, but I will look around.

Out of curiosity, how long do the flouro UV tubes last for? Should I get more than one at the time of purchase? How much am I looking at for a decent price for one UV tube?

i use a ten and a .05, the .05 comes on (timed) at 10am, and then the 10.0 joins it simultaniously from 12-3 when the .05 drops off at 3! then the 10.0 turns off and switches to 0.5 on its own at like 7pm for an hour or so, somewhere in the middle (like 11-7) a black heat globe chimes in too! (on a basking spot).

There was a post floating around here last week I think it was .
According to UV test carried out by a Northern Territory Zoo or wildlife park the NEC10 black light tube out performed the reptisuns & is about quarter of the price.
