Vet consultation $$$

Hi guys,
Just wondering what the usual cost is of a trip to the vet for a regular check-up (in NSW). I bought a Bredli recently and just wanted to take her for a check-up. I called the Vet in Randwick www.birdvet.com.au, they said $70 for consultation. Is that a reasonable price or would be better off going somewhere else?

P.S. Not being tight or anything, just not a fan of getting ripped off

Thanks guys!

I go to Micheal Cannon in Wollongong. The vet clinic is called Cannon and Ball vet clinic and their number is 4229 8888. Last time I went down I had 2 animals checked over and took one in for surgery. After the consult, surgery, a week of care after surgery, 2 weeks of after care meds and everything else it only cost around $110.

Definitely worth the drive down.

I wouldn't recommend that vet. He's scared of snakes

If your animal is healthy there's no need to take it to the vet anyway.

Alex is a great bird vet but loves to run a heap of tests for fairly simple things eg one of my customers took a budgie to him for a check up and he ran several $$$$ tests to find a mild bacteria infection that probably wasn;t causing any harm anyway cost her about $200........for a budgie check up. but on that note if i had something wrong my bird i would want him but for check ups he always seems to find something wrong or runs tests untill he does.
he's good. as said already he's a bird vet not a rep vet and when i pay for vet work i tnd to what to see someone who specialises in the right area.

all vets are different(price and service) i took my beloved blue quaker to our local vet at 9pm because her ears had started bleeding, as there wasnt anything he could do he gave her a shot of antibiotics and lest me to tend to the ears(as they had stopped bleeding, and he knew i have experience with them). he did not charge me anything for the service he had provided(many other vets would have charged me out of hours fee and much more. If you think $70 is too much then get prices from others. Remember not all vets are the same quality!

Hmmmm, thanks! The website did say though that he specialises in exotics (including snakes). Well yea it is just for a check up, she's healthy and active and all, new to snakes so just want to be sure.

Oshakoor,
I highly recommend David Vella(Exotic's Vet) at Crows Nest, he specialises in reptiles and would give your snake a first class examination and is very reasonable.
His details are : David Vella, North Shore Vet Specialist Centre, 64 Atchinson st, Crows Nest.
Tel: 02 9436 4884 or 9572 6854
www.davidvella.com.au

Cheers Neil

I use the Sydney University Avian & Exotic Pet Hospital at Camden...

The two Vets there are brilliant - costs about $40 for a consultation...

If they are a specialist reptile vet, you'd expect to pay more than a standard small animal vet. I take my herps to the Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Service and pay $80 for a consultation.
