Nice guy seems to know his stuff and i think it's around $30 per consultation.

I took my Jungle (he wasn't feeding) to the South Penrith vet yesterday - they specialise in reptiles and are fantastic. Jane Roffey is great to talk with, and gives A1 advice.

Turns out my jungle had a protozoa problem! After taking a fecal sample, Jane let me view the wriggling little buggers under her microscope... she said there were quite a lot of them as well. She treated my JCP with an oral solution of Flaagyl Suspension (Metronidazole), then we talked for about 10 mins about how the protozoa has affected his eating (he's NOT eating!).

The consultation was $65, and the treatment was $40, and her advice was free. IMO its a small price to pay - and i'm not sure about you but it really annoys me when people say "vet fee's are so expensive" and it bothers me even more when people dont seek medical attention for their herps because of the price.

In my opinion, if people dont want to pay vet fee's, they should sell their herp and buy a stuffed koala from Paddys' Markets.

cheers,
Lockie.

If your animal is healthy there's no need to take it to the vet anyway.

Haha.. I thought it was just me that noticed it. The last time I took my sick snake, he was too scared to hold it as he didn't want to get "infection" from being bitten.

I certainly wouldn't recommend Alex to anyone for reptiles. The last vet bill from him was over $500 - a week's worth of antibiotic and a few days stay in his "reptile hospital".

I have been told by many people that Teri Bellamy is good for reptiles. Anyhow, here's a list of reptile vets in Australia.

58 dollars for 5 minutes, 75 dollars for over 5 minutes and less than 10, $100 for over 10 minutes and less than 15... Compound that with tests, antibiotics etc., and you up for quite a large bill in Alice Springs.

I've paid $400 so far for my sick jungle (abscess) and can see myself paying at least that much again and more. Waiting for pathology results for next course of action.

What's annoying is that if the snake was a dog or cat with a similar problem, the abscess would have been lanced on the first consulation and he would most likely be better - or almost better by now (words from the vet).

Anyway, got to give the snake an injection now Strange how the vet doesn't do that....

I always take mine to Teri Bellamy at Austral 96069312 or Canley heights 96049792. She has many years experience with reptiles and other Australian native animals. I have even taken venomus snakes to her. She is a lot cheeper thn what you have been quoted. She will explain everything to you as well.
