By not feeding them live ones in the 1st place cause that would be illegal? =P
Try making sure they are warm enough and make them move around like they are alive.

Put dead ones on one of those vibrating food dishes. That should work. As long as the pinkie is moving they will think its alive.
But yes, feeding live food is a no no.

why are you feeding rodents so often it's a problem if they aren't in their diet?

My beardies will happily take a defrosted fuzzy. Sometimes I gotta wait until they are kinda hungry before they will take it though, and usually they'll eat anything if you wiggle it around enough.

i got told that it was illegal to feed live rodents to snakes (in queensland).
the first point from that is is that a correct statement of the law?
the second point is that there is no second point apart from that my juvy beardie will not touch veggies even if i wiggle them around but loves mealworms and crickets (live).
also is it true that mealworms are very fatty and you should only feed them to beardies rarely?

Just hold them with some forceps and move them around a little bit. You can also try gently rubbing the pinky on the mouth of the beardy, again using forceps.

not sure i would use mice as a regular food source, more of a treat occasionally!
mealworm also have a very hard to digest exoskeleton which has been known to cause impactions in beardies and other lizards - again they are best used as an occasional!
crickets, woodies, moths, silkworms etc are best used as a staple food source, mixed with the veggie side of things.
what i do is put in a saucer of veggies and then put the insects into that so when they eat the insects they often get a bit of the green food in their mouths, and will usually end up eating it anyway.
have you tried the beardie pellets available from the shops, or using hibiscus leaves and flowers (especially red flowers) or mulberry leaves and mulberries?
anyway, hope this is of some help to you.

Bombie - so mulberry leaves are OK? I wasn't sure - that would be great to be able to put the silkworms and their mulberry leaves in and not just throw out the half eaten leaves. Excellent! Now that's my idea of recycling!
