Tadpole question

My bf's sister found some tadpoles in a horse trough that was overflowing because of all the rain. Anyway I went out and caught as many as I could so that I could raise them.
1. Am I allowed to raise them or should I just put them back?
2. Will it be ok to release them when they are older?
3. When I do release them would I let them go near the dam or back near the horse trough?
4. And lastly, would it be ok for me to keep a couple or is it not allowed because it is technically wild caught?
Thanks

Queensland's laws regarding this are very hard to find on the internet. You may be better off giving them a call:

EPA Hotline 1300 130 372

As far as I am aware legally you aren't allowed to take them, so you should put them back. If you do decide to raise them then release them to the same spot you got them from.

i read an article from the gov about frogs the other day. it said that we can keep a maximum of 7 local frogs without a licencse but all frogs can not be moved or sold or given away. if they breed all babies must be released at the end of their metamorphosis sp?. i'll see if i can find the link for you

Thanks meshe1969, I rang them and I can't keep the tadpoles
Helikaon, the girl told me that I could keep 8 frogs as long as they are fully grown and if you move you have to release them back into your yard. She did say that I could release the tadpoles into a pond if we had one. I might just clean out a horse bucket and change their water and feed them occasionally and put a stick in their for when they grow. Technically they would still be in the wild then right?

Why does that article say up to 8 common frogs or up to 2 common frogs?

I think what they mean is that eight individual frogs can be kept but a maximum of two per species.

This is only applicable if the frogs are kept on the same property as they are caught. I presumed you didn't catch them on the property where you plan to keep them and it only applies to frogs not tadpoles. Also as far as I am aware this does not apply if you already have a license.

Yes, it means that you can keep up too eight frogs but only two of the same type i.e If you catch them on your own property you can keep 2 Green Tree frogs, 2 Red eye tree frogs, 2 Eastern Dwarf tree frogs and 2 Eastern Banjo frogs.
A maximum of eight frogs but only a maximum of two per species.

yup, first post. been lurking about on here for a few weeks though!

I think its a shame in a way that you're not allowed to keep tadpoles. i'd imagine that a lot of people here's first expierience with reptiles/amphibians would have been as a kid looking after tadpoles. i know mine was!
i won't tell if you keep some lol!

How far away is the place where you caught the tadpoles from where you are keeping them?
We are having a bit of an issue with disease in frogs in Australia. Here is a good site for some info:

Yeah it is a shame you can't keep them, I understand though because they are threatened because of all the toads - I'm worried about the horses drinking them though My first experience with tadpoles ended up being toads
The tadpoles were in the paddock/backyard and frogs come into the house and jump on the screens because of all the bugs attracted to the lights. There was also one in my fishtank I had on our verandah once - it wouldn't shut up when I was trying to get to sleep! I had the tadpoles on the verandah which isn't far away from the horses water bucket and trough.
