Hi guys,

I have a 2 and a half y/o Albino Darwin Python and would love some expert advice on terrarium set up including the perfect temperature and the best equipment to achieve this, lighting required (Day / night and whether UV is needed as i have read a lot of stuff saying it's not) and anything else experts think would contribute to a happy Snake.

I need to get some down lights setup, you'll see red tape blocking the mounts in the roof.

Any questions please just let me know.

Thanks a lot!

Isaac.

You won't require UV for this guy as he is nocturnal. Your best bet is a red basking lamp for during the day, or even a normal basking lamp to get temps of around 30-33 degrees, and a ceramic bulb for night heat. Your setup seems fine but make sure the snake can't wrap around the lights otherwise it'll get burnt. Enjoy your albino, they're very enjoyable snakes to keep.

Thanks a lot for the info mate appreciate it!

Hey Isaac your setup is nice!
As the above post but as that is in garage i would use a daylight bulb on a timer for the day. Ialso find the eco tech thermostat reliable to regulating temps.
As a side note you would be better off covering the holes with wooden board from above weighed down with brick or rock than have any type of adheasive tape in the enclosure remove it immediately.
Take it from me i learnt a heartbreaking lesson having to euthanise my first diamond python after it caused extensive damage to its skin taping down a thermostat.

If it were my enclosure i would put the lamps over the holes and cages around them. Plugged into the thermostat.
As an idea this is what i use pictured below.

Awesome thanks Brett!

When you say a 'Daylight Bulb' do you mean a UV producing one?
Great point seeing as the terrarium is in the garage and won't get lot of natural light.

I'll look into the eco tech thermostat, thanks for the recommendation.

That's awful to hear, i'll get rid of the tape!

Thanks for going to the effort and sharing so much detail mate.

Cheers,
Isaac

Not necessarily a UV emitting globe but you would want above 4500k. Just so your python has a day and night. I set up the day night timer on the thermostat and adjust it according to the season.
Before using the day night thermostat i used a regular digital timer on all my enclosures it was handy, just plugged.in a power board so they all turn on and off at the same interval. Having said that i do use UV lighting even though its not necessary. I like the light they emit.
Again you have a beautiful home for your darwin! Enjoy it mate.
Hope this helps
