Hi! I have been looking into the possibilities of housing jungle Pythons in Vivarium/ Paludarium type enclosures and was wondering if anyone could give me some info??
I'am aware there are many factors involved e.g humidity causing respiratory problems, python drowning in water etc, but I'am very serious about it and would love to hear some solutions and input if I can. Cheers.

These are just some latest pics of a BHP i got 6 months ago and was wondering what peoples thoughts for as im new to BHP's and wouldnt have a clue what to think about this animal as it has zero history(ballot animal).
So no idea of histrory, age, local etc.
Noticed in his last 2 sheds that he has been losing colour along his side scales, as there turning pink (camera pics dont show it well but there pink)
So info ive figured out so far is hes male maybe 3 yrs old and possibly calico.
Anyway just thought id see everyones thoughts as i know little of calicos and BHP morphs in general.
Pink half/full scales go all the way down both lower sides.
Thanks for any insite.

Wondering if anyone knows if a specialist permit is needed for GTP's in SA?

I have checked the basic species list on the department of environment website, and they aren't on there as far as I can see. Had a search through the forum, and can't find anything about keeping them in SA.

I won't be looking at getting one for a good couple of years yet, as I want to get more experience with keeping carpets first, but would like to know for my own reference, and for when I decide to get one in a few years.

If they do require a specialist permit, is anything special needed (such as with vens, crocs etc) or merely a matter of applying and paying the fee?

I woke up this morning feeling terrible (I've got the flu at the moment). I went to check on my snakes and found one of my Darwins in the middle of laying eggs. It brightened my day so much I almost forgot about my flu for a minute. She'd already laid eleven eggs by that time. It took her another couple hours to deposit the rest. She laid twenty fertile eggs and one slug. I took some pics to share.

Enjoy,

I know this is silly, but I was wondering... what would you do if your large python started to constrict you? I've heard a few instances of it here, but not how they solved the 'problem'... I know you can prevent it by not dangling a massive snake around your neck, but eh, some people still do it.

Online I've heard countless stories of owners keeping a pencil to snap if the python were to constrict them, they claim the python would think it was 'hearing' a bone breaking and release... this is hilarious for so many reasons.

My curiousity got the better of me here - but has anyone had this happen? How'd you stop it? Some insight for a naive lizard owner would be swell...

I was in my local pet shop buying goldfish this afternoon and a chap came in wanting to buy "crickets" for his....snake !!! My ears popped....I said to him....crickets for a snake, I don't think so....what sort of snake. He said he wasn't sure, his mate had given it to him, it was about 4 inches long, had a white head and orange stripes. He was "sure" it wasn't dangerous and thought it should be fed !!! I said do you have a licence for it.....oh yeah he says, I have a licence !! Mmmmm me thinks, he's only had it 2 days, doesn't know what it is, thinks it eats crickets and it takes a month to get a licence.....somethings not right here !!! BUT....the pet shop SOLD HIM CRICKETS !!!!

Very strange....you guys got any idea what a West Ozzie snake...about 4 ins long, white head and orange stripes could be ????????

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had observed any differences in the health or behaviour of captive snakes when heating is supplied from above vs from below? It probably won't make any difference but I was just wondering if any heating from above or below would initiate more natural behaviours. I'm setting up some new snake enclosures (darwins coming soon! I am so excited!) and realised this was something I'd never thought about before!

hey guys im really thinking about getting some hatchling olives this season if possible, but the thing is that ive been looking through the search bar and theres more people after them than selling, which makes it hard to find how much the average cost would be and being able to get one from amongst the people who want one but even amoungst that, is taking them interstate hard? you see ive only ever bought locally.... i sound like a total noob.....
