Have any of you guys documented sperm retention in carpet pythons ...?

has any one got any information at all on this subject please help me out here ?

im asking as i have a clutch of jungles and one odball that appears Jaguar ..

now the last time the female seen the jaguar was oct 06 could this happen after all this time

i always thought that new sperm would simply be used and any retained would be disregarded

could it survive that length of time in the female ?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

I have two coastal carpets and 2 spotteds

1 x coastal *5 months* hasnt eaten for 4 weeks
1 x spotted *6 months* hasnt eaten for 3 weeks..

All temps are right-they are in different enclosures and they just had a shed, so thats what i'm putting it down to. But i have tried to force feed the coastal with a dropped in the mouth so that it is at least getting some vitimens. Is this ok? I just think something is better then nothing, it is begining to look very skinny, i'm getting a little worried. I've had the coastal for 3 weeks, if it doesnt eat a pinkie in the next few days i'm going to give the previous owner a call to ask for some advice.

Anyone have any idea's?

Hey guys just wanted to get other peoples thoughts to see if i'm doing the right thing. I got a woma python which turned off her food mid summer i managed to get her to eat a few times which kept her going but now its getting colder. I kept her cold up till this week and then cranked the heat up to around 34 during the day and about 30 at night waiting approx two weeks before attempting feeding again, she had been in an enclosure with male woma for a while due to lack of space however I've made space for the male in another enclosure which i hope will be a less stressfull environment.

any one got any ideas which may assist me?

I just now checked on my 16 month old spotted as he is due to shed soon. The light to his tank is off but I turned the light to the room on so could see him but not disturb him and he was behind his hide belly up! All I saw was his white belly. I started freaking out. I turned his light on and quickly checked his heat was on, it was. The position he was in was head and first few inches of his body were up the right way but from say halfway along to the tip of his tail he was belly up, not stretched out, just coiled up normally, but belly up. He moved back into position when I disturbed him and seemed ok, I'm just wondering if this is normal behaviour? He is all cloudy because of due to shed. I got him out and checked him all over and he seemed ok. Should I be concerned? Or was he just really really relaxed?

One of the people i sold a baby central to has just been to see me as the little one is not eating and sits on it's hot rock and isnt moving much. When i went to look at it it has a small solid lump in it's abdomen, the tank has no sand or gravel in it (as i tell people only to use paper as a substrate until they are 1-2 years old as i have seen juvies and hatchlings die from sand impaction). the viv has a basking light, UV fluro and heat rock and some branches for climbing. But he has a habit of overfeeding as the viv was "FULL" of crickets he also feeds small woodies, grated carrot and lettuce. the beardie is 5 months old any ideas, suggestions or remedies? I have let him know that this is most likely a vet visit but there isn't any good reptile vets in Adelaide as Ian Hough has retired.

I have recently purchased a young Childrens Python from a Pet Store about 2 months ago.... I was told it was about 7 months old when I bought it.

When I looked at the snake in the pet shop it seemed calm and did not bite or strike at all but since getting it home it constantly strikes and latches on to my hand (a bit like a pit bull dog would do) and it wees at the same time, everytime. I have tried handling the snake often but that seems to have no affect on its attitude and weeing problem. I dont know what to do about it anymore. Will it grow out of this stage?

I have also had other dramas with the snake..... When I got it home it settled in fine and I fed it the following week with no dramas. The next few feeds it went well. And then it wouldnt eat at all, i tried for hours with the last feed jiggling the mouse infront of the snake but had no luck, so I left the mouse in the tank over night but that didnt work. A few days later I got a new mouse and the snake ate that one after about half an hour of trying to get it to eat. Now I am up to the next feed...... but it has been 2 and a half weeks since it last ate. I just wont eat at all. I have tried every second day for the past 2 weeks to feed it but with no luck. It mouths the food and looks like it is going to eat it then spits it out. I dont understand why it wont eat all a sudden, the tank temperature hasnt changed at all and the snake doesnt seem to be shedding so I really dont know. Can anyone help me with this?

I need some advice please.

Can some one please tell me the amount that a hatchie bearded dragon should be eating. Mine will eat about 4 -7 small crickets a day. No vegies yet etc. Then he will not eat the next day, but then will eat the following day. He has been doing this since I have had him, about 2 weeks. He appears healthy, heats good in the enclosure.38 basking, cold end about 20 to 25 and warm end about 35, he's very active etc. Small water dish is in the enclosure but have not seen him drink. Have bathed him every second day to make sure that he is hydrated. Also when he is in the bath, he closes his eyes and goes all stiff and won't move, until I get him out and back under the heat. I make sure that the water is warm. Is all this normal for feeding and bathing etc. Please, help needed.

Hi there,

I was wondering what age and size a bredli female python needs to be to breed.

Also what temperature do i cool them both down at for hibernation? I have turned their heat lamps off and the room temperature is a constant 22 degrees. Is this cool enough?

Reptile Chart v1.0 - Historical Data

Hi guys, I am in the process of designing a reptile chart in order to capture trends and the like of various snakes I own. I thought to myself that other people might want to do it themselves.

I have made an Excel Spreadsheet to record all the data as I see fit. I have a number of columns and spaces for comments and the like. I have attached it here for your personal use if you like. I am putting this up here for free (I don't want any money for it - but I also don't want it sold by anyone).

Please, if you have any ideas on how I can improve it let me know, I would be very appreciative. I have kept it very simple in order make it quick and easy for data entry.

If enough interest is shown then I will post updated files with ammendments etc for easy download.

In relation to what data you record, I just do food type, date & time as well as a weekly measure and weigh.

Thanks for looking anyways guys.

Cheers

I have to ask however because I couldn't find it in search. Question is: Do you have to wait until your snake poops before you feed it again? My hatchie olive seems to go quite a long time from feed to poop. I've seen a lot of advice stating that hatchies should eat once a week. Will he be fine if i feed him once a week even if he hasn't pooped out the last meal? (Notice the gratuitous use of the word "poop"? Sorry about that.)

Hi all,
Just looking for a bit of advise. I have cut through the internal wall of some 2 foot enclosures to make a 4 foot enclosure and I now have some exposed timber (melamine). What can I use to seal the exposed parts with? I have some Bondcrete but I'm not sure if It is all right to use on the internal part. I don't want to use the iron on melamine. Is there any other product anyone else has any experience with?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am picking up my first python (a Bredli) on Saturday.
Thanks

eastern water dragon help

Hi guys, firstly im kinda new at this reptile thing so id apreciciate any help any of you are willing to give.

im about to own my mates eastern water dragon, im unsure of its age but hes about a foot long. i have almost finished construction of his new home which consists of the following.
It is a 7foot by 2 foot tank at one end i have built a tapered 2 x 3 foot pool which is aprox 3/4 of a foot deep the water is running through a mini reef setup with a wet / dry biological filtration system cycling 130 litres of water around 10 times per hour. It is also keeping the water at around 24 degrees. I have used all natural bush rock and plants as a divider.
On the dry side i have used a bed of crushed rock and sandstone and added some red sand, mainly for color and ive seen a few people use it.
I am about to install 4 fluros two white tri phosphor and 2 uvb. is this enough? should i have the uvb tubes over both ends of the tank or just one? is metal halide lighting good for reptiles? is the water temp too high or too low? i will be adding live plants as well, and a large brancg over the water. i basically want to make his enviroment as authentic as possible.
im open to all suggestions.

if you want to see pics... [ame]http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s81/fleasmechanic666/tank2.jpg[/ame]

Hey all,

I currently have a 8month old female eastern beardy & a 5month old male eastern beardy.

Currently they have the heat on from 6am - 8pm - I try to keep them in this routine.

My question is the 5m old likes the heat on over night and will sleep with it on but the 8m old gets grumpy with it on?

The hot end gets to 38+ degrees and the cool end 23 - 28 degrees

and they have branches and hides at both ends of the 1200 x 800 x 800 enclosure

Any suggestions would be appreciated, at the moment at night its dropping down to 16sh degrees as its been so cold at night?

Should i leave it on 24/7 or?

Hi Guys,

I've heard various opinions, but no hard and fast rule. I have been told by some that you should ABSOLUTELY not feed during a shed, whereas other say that you can if the snake takes it, and some have said just reduce the feed size. Just wondering if there's any scientific backing for the claim not to feed it? As in, would I be endangering my snake's health in any way if I offer her food during a shed. She's an absolute guts and never refuses a feed, and I did feed her during her last shed and she took it. However I was told later on that I shouldn't be giving her any food as the lump may cause shedding problems and possible suffocation :? Any basis for what I was told or can I continue feeding?

Thanks guys!
