Thought i would post some pics of my recently hatched thick tail geckos. Been whinging all season about my thick tails not breeding and noticed in late February one of my females was gravid. She eventually laid 2 eggs on the 9th March, since this was her first clutch of the season and being so late in the season i wasnt expecitng too much but to my amazement they both hatched, unfortunately i was overseas due to work at the time of hatching and my daughter took control and did a great job. Was a thrill to get home and check them out. One hatched on 3/05 and the other on the 4/05. They have now shed and firstly seemed scared of the pinhead crickets but now seem to realise they are food.

i have recently purchaced both the microclimate b1 and b2 and have had to callibrate the temperature control. nowhere on the web page does it mention this. the small temperature tweaking slot doesn't have an arrow to show what temperature i've chosen. for instance in the picture below the night temp could be either 0 or 10 degrees?????? also i have found that the night temperate scale is out according to my digital thermometer. has any one else had these issues? i paid close to $200 for my dimming thermostat, i would have thought for this price i would have got much better accuracy. what do you think?

I have been looking and looking on here and finally decided to directly ask, what are the species of smaller snakes that are readily availiable? Im thinking something under 2m, i know of the spotted python or childrens python , but looking for any other options.
I really like colubrids but i rarely see any for sale.
I already proudly own a BHP, so thats my big snake, now im looking for something smaller.
Just post a snakes name for me and im happy to research from there. Thanks

Hello fellow APS members.

I realy like Jungles. I've done alot of research on Carpet python's in general, and I realy learnt alot. But this is the one the it didn't tell me. I know they probley arent the best as a second snake and I wouldn't be getting one as my second snake anyway. Now my question is, are they easily kept in Brisbane?

Gday all

Just a bit of advice.

I have a maculosa hatchling who continually moves around its small enclosure, it just does not seem settled. It has eaten twice for me. Temps have been the same since I have had her (since mac herp show) She has a hide in there, water etc... just seems restless and is never sitting still.

Any thoughts? Should I be worried. She didn't eat this week which I am not worried about, she has the past two weeks no hesitation.

Cheers

Posted a pic of my enclosures when they first arrived from Darryn from Parkers Enclosures.
Lights finally installed all I have to do is fit light cages and thermostats and add a few new decorations. And a pic of Atticus (tanami) cruising his new home.
feel free to post how you have transformed any of Darryns products for your herps.

Many of you will know Dr. Bryan Grieg Fry as one of the researchers who discovered venom in monitors. He seems to live a pretty ideal life for a herper traipsing the world looking for herps in the name of research.

On Friday May 30 he will be the special guest speaker at the VHS meeting to be held at Monash University's Clayton Campus. ***All are welcome***

I have put up a page with some of his pictures as a teaser on the Herp Trader web site: *http://www.herptrader.com.au/vhs/* (http://www.herptrader.com.au/vhs/) The photos include some of him with what I presume are some of Melbourne Zoos Beaded Lizards. I am guessing that these might be the ones that made the news earlier this week when they were successfully bred.

Please make a note in your diaries as this VHS meeting is one not to be missed.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know of a good insect supplier in Sydney? I've been buying 21 & 30 day old roaches from the herp shop but would rather use a local supplier so that i can avoid postage costs.

Is it worth setting up a breeding tank or isn't it worth the fuss? I've only got a couple of pygmy dragons.

For all of you who missed the SOFAR (Society of Frogs and Reptiles) Expo at Newcastle the date for next year has now been set on 15 March 2009 at the same venue as last time- The Newcastle Jockey Club at Newcastle Racecourse, Broadmeadow.
Having visited most of the shows this year I'd have to say this is one of the best venues around being undercover with heaps of parking and room. SOFAR is really fortunate with its members having some of the largest and most diverse collections around. Watch the SOFAR webpage for details.
