OK let me set the scene. I have had my Male carpet for bout 3 weeks now and the 2 times i have tried to feed him he has refused food (Currently swapping from mice to rat's). Anyways had some friends around tonight and we had him out letting the kids have a bit of a cuddle. While he was out i was warming a feed for my female and didnt realise that one of the pinkie mice i have for my hatchie was stuck to it when i put it in the water (only got hatchie today WOO HOO!!) so i decided i would see if it was hungry too. My friends son was holding my male and he had made his way ontop of his head (See pics below) and was just sitting there. I had to walk past him to get to the rest of my snakes and as i went past he launched himself off the top of the boys head past my hand that was holding the rat and smashed the pinky. I know the feed is to small for him, but it was a great sight too see, and to see everyone else in the room $h1t themself! Once he settled after grabbing it i moved him to the edge of the bucket that he likes to climb on an he finished it off.

hey guys...i am planning on breeding my olive pythons this year...i have been told to cool them in April to start breeding them in mid-late May through to July ....

just wondering when they say cool in April...does this mean early or late April??..

I was gonna give my female and male olive a last feed next week and leave them 3 weeks to digest their food then start to cool them down gradually.....
then introduce them around the end of May......
week on week off until no more mating is happening....i know everyone does things different but just wondering if it sounds like it will encourage breeding by what i'm doing....

any help would be great.....

It all started yesterday, I found my Thick-Tailed gecko, dead in his enclosure, Needless to say, i was in total hysterics, im talking like, panic attack X feinting. I just got so emotional over it.

i was supposed to go into work that night, except i wouldnt have trusted my self to pour a glass of water, let alone drive the car into work, deal with customers, then drive home again. I asked mum to ring in sick for me, i couldnt breathe long enough to even think about talking about it.
Mum then asked me what she was to say as the reason for me not going to work, i was like, 'just tell them the truth?!' to which her response was 'What, tell them your lizard died?! Sorry Jessica, but seriously, thats not really a good enough reason.'

I was totally speechless over this D:
if it had been my dog or cat, im sure it would have been worthy enough.

I ended up going to work today, and when asked why i didnt come in last night, i told them the truth, i cop'd so much crap for it, they all laughed and jeered.
i was crying again in no time.

Just cause my "lizard" wasnt furry, or interactive like a dog or cat, doesnt mean i didnt have an attachment to it. I loved it as much, if not more, than what i love my dog.

I just found it really unfair and unjust that both co-workers and management we're having a good laugh at this. I felt like i couldnt even take it up with someone higher because they would have just laughed to.

-deep breath-

Iuno, it just hurt more that everyone got a good laugh out of it. While i was really REALLY upset over it. I didnt wanna rant to anyone else, i thought you guys might understand. (:

I put the first laying box in for about five hours. But all the adult crickets died, I wasn't expecting there to be many eggs. I put it on heat anyway, just checked then and I counted at least 30 baby crickets :D
They're so tiny, I was about to throw it out when I realized.
Now I'm waiting for the second box to hatch, there should be heaps in it.
Do I keep the laying box in with the babies or do I separate them?

Can somebody please recomend some books that pertain mostly to the husbandry/breeding of carpet pythons? I have searched alot of sites on the internet and have learnt the basics but i am looking for something that is a little more in-depth, preferably by an australian author.

I personally believe a lot of people panic too much about incubators. l haven't owned an incubator for ages[years], l use an [mt] snake enclosure [1800 x 700 x 700] but you can use smaller or bigger one ......what l believe a lot [not all] people forget is most of our incubating is done in the warmer months, so an incubator doesn't need heaps of power [wattage] my bhp enclosure l use is horizontal [of course] therefore negating the use of fans, it has a habistat [dimmer] thermostat , one 20w heat mat for resistance and 6 x 25w light globes spread around the floor [6 incase one or two go fizz] ....this enclosure has a single glass door [normal sliding], which l hang a towel over while incubating , but most of the time in that room in spring / summer the temp hovers around the mid twenties anyway so the incubator / enclosure is not doing a lot of work......l am of the very firm opinion 99% of an incubator is the thermostat and at $110-120 the brand l use l believe is excellent value.......cheers solar 17 [Baden]
