i personally just give the branch or rock a good soak in fresh water, then a scrub (another soak and another scrub depending on how dirty it is) then let it dry out in the sun.. never had any...

i use to use slate tiles it with my beardies and never had a problem... its also good to use at the cool end as it stays cool on the hotter days..
