Beardies spend alot of time basking so the uv and heat source need to be close to each other. It doesn't matter if the uv doesn't reach the entire cage.

We have only been allowed to keep reptiles here for a few years and alot of animals are wild caught. Captive bred animals are cheaper but not by much!
