I used to use that and just drop it on their backs, they would lick it off each other. I now use a Vetafarm product All Wormer (I think its called) which is mixed into the water bottle, much better.

I think plants rely on visible light and UVA light for growth, glass filters mostly the UVB part of the spectrum. It would be interesting to see how the 5 or so percent of UVB that does get through...
