Before you do any of that, gently grab the little foot and rub the spot with your thumb, if it comes off, its just sloughing skin, nothing to worry about at all. make sure the turtle gets ampletime...

We just use plain old hot water, let it sit 10-15 minutes while ya watch telly, then refresh with hot water for a further 5 minutes (dep on size)...
