Red Desert Sand!

I want to give my Beardie the opportunity to dig!

Considering it is $7/kg here and $1.50/kg on www.strictlyreptiles.com.au, But I don't need 20kg I was wondering whether anyone had some spar unused sand that they would sell to me for cheap?

I only want mayb 5-10kg

And how much will postage be?

by the time you pay postage on sand (which isnt cheap) you'd be better off buying a small bag from a local pet shop

I thought about that, I would still like to know prices anyway.

Do you think I could get 10KG+post for $25?

$30 for 10KG, a little more than I was hoping, but I might buy some from you...

I'll think about it.

Thanks.

DON'T DO IT!

I thought the same thing and I put some red sand in 5 days ago. Up until then they had never had sand.

I have spent most of tonight with warm baths, syringes of warm juice and massages to save my beardie from major impaction and possible death. I have had him pass a little bit of hard poo but not much.

Once again, I say DON'T DO IT!

Really? But thats what they have naturally? Doesn't a gravid beardie need to burrow to lay eggs? I am thinking of breeding them.

gee, it's lucky that beardies don't live on sand in the wild..

Hey DragonKeeper- do you have a bunnings near by?

They sell Plasterers sand (red desert sand) for about $6 for 30 KG

They are halfway through building a Bunnings here.

Any recommendations for a natural substrate that wont harm my beardie?

Do you come down to adelaide/smithfield at all?

I use a very naturalsusbrate for my beardies, which kinda looks like chunky bark litter. but much more 'bush' looking. I buy it from the smithfied pet and fodder store, they only place i know that stocks it. it only costs me $10 for approx 3 shopping bags full of the stuff. (it comes in one big clear bag, but i don't know the weight) which is enough to do my beadie tank twice.

Mine love to dig around in it and love it as a substrate. also it doen't cause impactions, but is natural looking and makes my beardies feel at home.

Will try to get pic of it tonight.

Sarah
