Lovely looking snake you've posted a picture of, D
I still can't see what people are getting at when they call them mini Water Pythons, but hey, whatever makes you happy
All but one of the babies in the clutch took its first feed (an unscented thawed pink mouse) quite readily and they're about ready for their second feeds now. I haven't had this much ease getting a clutch of snakes to feed except for Water Pythons, so maybe the name people are giving them isn't quite so inappropriate
Ashleigh: all Children's Pythons (including Stimson's etc) fade to a greater or lesser extent over time. Most "Children's Pythons" (in the restrictive sense) retain a reasonable amount of pattern, some lose almost all of it. I have one from another line which is about ten years old and she is still fairly boldly patterned, which isn't unusual. The so called "patternless" lines usually do hold some pattern as adults, but occassionally you get an exceptional individual which has no identifiable pattern (the one in D's picture is the best one I've ever seen). Recently there have been rumours going around about Children's Pythons which hatch patternless, apparently they've been around for about 20 years, but strangely no one has a picture of one... someone recently posted a picture of an adult which was supposedly "born" without pattern, but strangely, you could see spots on it!
I've attached pictures of a couple of my Children's Pythons (completely unrelated, both originating from NT, but from locations over 500km apart. The first is a very good 'patternless' Children's Python, the second is from another line I'm working with which is reasonably light but has a fairly typical amount of pattern, although even animals with this much pattern are sometimes called 'patternless' (which I think is pushing things quite a bit too far) animals with this colour are sometimes called "Caramel Children's" (not to be confused with caramel albino - I avoid the name for that reason). Both animals are the same age, both are proven breeding females.
If anyone is interested in some babies from the patternless female pictured, get in touch imminently as the demand is huge this season.

Thanks, thenothing
The patternless babies are $190 each.
I'll be holding the others back for the first six months or so as they're the first of the F2 generation and I'd like to see what they look like (I've tried sales conditional on receiving pictures down the track - it doesn't happen! ).

Whoa, $190 is really good! Do you have unrelated pairs, or just the one line?

I have different lines, but within each line the animals are related to a greater or lesser extent (by definition, that's what a line is). Inbreeding isn't going to cause health problems (we've all heard about how this that and the other species of python has been bred to x consecutive generations of full sib matings with no inbreeding depression), but crossing lines has become very popular over the last season or two, for sentimental and hypothetical reasons. People will fight on both sides of the argument, I suppose it's up to the individual. I have my views, but I'll step back from the conflict and quietly do my thing

I like to give them at least three feeds. I suppose that should be in about a week from now. If you're in Sydney, we'll need to sort out permits and payment, so a week will give us time.
