Hi Troy ,
There are some earlier threads about this . I was chasing the same idea a little while ago.
Essentially they're an exotic , which means you can't legally own one in Oz.
However ! They are apparently on some of the Torres Strait Islands , which is technically 'Australian' ---And therefore they maybe not technically an exotic --- I didn't follow it through & none of the folks on this site could really point me in the direction of any clear policy on it.
A BIG factor I overlooked ---and I think it was the guy on here who posts as 'Hazzard' pointed out,
The Torres strait islands are probably 'Traditional Land' , you'd need permission , and my personal feeling is that I don't think those Traditional folks want to see there Fauna being bought & sold for thousands of bucks on the mainland.
Also , to be honest , I thought the Northern form 'White Lipped Python' was the amazing looking
one. The southern form (torres Strait Islands included) grow quite a bit larger & have a pretty dull
look next to their northern kin.

You won't get permission to collect them from the wild regardless of whether they are on traditional, private or Crown land. I guess there would be a few illegals out there, but why bother with them?
Jamie.
