Need or not need a licence

Do i need to have a licence to capture wild geckos and bred them just need some advice just in case i do something illegal and if i do need a licence where can i get one i live in cairns, QLD and what are good geckos to bred?

If they are a native species you definitely do need a licence. If you were to capture the introduced Asian House Gecko this wouldn't apply as it is not protected. All native reptiles are protected and can't legally be taken from the wild without the proper permit.

You can apply for a recreational wildlife licence online - through the EPA website or inperson at your local EPA office.
Costs about $60 or so and the lic will last 5 years...and includes the record book..
You definately CANNOT capture wild geckos to breed and have to purchase from a reputable licenced breeder...
Smooth nobbies are easy to keep and hopefully easy to breed - I am about to find out myself..

To be able to take reptiles from the wild is a specialist licence and dont think just anyone can get one....
It is a bit more involved than you think..

Just do what EVERYONE else does - get your licence and BUY the geckos....

if you really want to take from the wild apply for a permit, apart from all the paper work there is a $500 fee just to submit your application, if you dont get it you dont get your $500 back. Save your money and get a rec permit and buy some gex

the $60 permit will allow you to keep pretty much most reptiles in qld minus the dangerous ones and a few others must be kept in limited numbers from memory however you must still purchase your geckos from somebody with a permit.

gecko prices range greatly i dont own any check out the sale section for a price.

enclosure setup shouldnt be to expensive as i dont belive geckos need heating or UVB lights do a search on captive care on the types you like and are thinking of keeping.

my birthday is in april so i dont need to pay out of my savings account ive got nothing right now so ill just buy all the stuff i need in april. what food should i feed them because my im preety bad at choosing food for my reptiles because my snake in SA was really stubern and wouldnt eat any food i gave him so i gave him back to Reptile City

My geckos eat crickets and sometimes woodies ( cockroaches ) ....

If you GAVE back your snake because it was stubborn, maybe you dont have what it takes to keep reptiles....
Perserverence is whats needed when it comes to keeping reptiles....
You dont give a reptile back just because it is a stubborn eater...

As has been said you will need a minimum of $200 to get you started with 1 gecko....

Choosing food for your snake? What were you feeding him?

I tend to disagree. If the owner clearly doesn't have the experience, the animal is much better off back in the hands of someone that can take adequate care of it. I'd rather see it returned than slowly deteriorate and die.

Anyway, I don't know if I'd label the animal in question a "stubborn eater" as I'd be more inclined to look at the husbandry etc. of the keeper first. Guess that's a bit irrelevant though..

is a 30 width 30 length and 50 height any good for a cage? its got lighting

That size is fine but you dont need a light unless it gets cold in your area, and then only use a infrared bulb, with a thermostat so you dont kill them. The cage size is fine, just make sure they cannot escape as most geckos are very good escape artists and can get through holes much smaller then you would think..

Um, i never said they werent? But this guy is talking about pet geckos.. not snakes, frogs, dogs, cats, fish.. so on and so forth.
