I introduced my SXR Uluru womas last night for the first time...all I can say is the female was absolutely gagging for it, the little harlet.
This is the first time I've bred pythons so was very interesting to watch. Thought I'd recount what happened for those that might be breeding womas for the first time this year also.
On first putting the male with the female, he went round the entire enclosure and checked out every nook and cranny, having a really good 'sniff' at the hide, water bowl and basking tile.
During this time the female was eyeing him up trying to work out if he was her next meal. Thankfully she decided he wasn't and he then started checking her out. Mutual checking out ensued, lots of 'sniffing' going on. The female was tensing muscles in her abdomen about 10 cm up from her cloaca.
After a few minutes more the male started to waggle the end of his tail, showing his excitement. The female followed suit (looked hilarious). The female then expelled clear liquid from her cloaca, with a tiny amount of urea in it. This seemed to make the male even more excited.
Continuing the tail wiggle she then started lifting her cloaca off the floor and at one point, did it right in front of his face so he could take a good whiff. If that wasn't the python equivalent of a female dog presenting her behind to a male I don't know what is LOL!
Then it was ON, they began lining up their bodies, the female very nicely lifting up her cloaca as they went along together so the male could slip underneath.
Due to his inexperience though he hadn't quite worked out what he was supposed to be doing!! Poor girl, she couldn't have made it any easier for him LMAO!
After about 30 mins, she went into her hide with about 10 cm of her tail out of the opening still wiggling, and her head just out watching him pace around. It looked like she was enticing him to bed!
About 10 minutes after that after he showed no interest of coming to bed with her she came out again and began the pacing again.
I left them to it at this point, but found them curled up together this morning with their tails lined up, the male was trying to to get his underneath hers. They have also gone considerably darker like the end of their shed cycle, although they are both about 10 days into their shed cycle.
Hopefully at some point this week I'll catch them doing the deed!
Here there are this morning...attempting...you'd think with two hemipenes he'd have worked it out by now??
And a bit later this morning, a few premature ejaculation moment seem to have occurred! How embarassing!
And here's some recentish pic of them both
