Hey Gem,
PM xshadowx, she lives there and Im sure she will know a few hot spots.
Cheers Andy.

p.s. Hows ya python going? Any bites lately?

I know something fun you can do in Townsville - you can drive to Cairns!

hehe...

Townsville is great! (Shut up Slim!) You can drive 20 mins to alligator creek, or an hour to Paluma, or you can go and hang out on the strand (much nicer beaches here than Cairn's mudflats). Shopping isn't spectacular but that doesn't worry me (i don't know if you shop a lot or not!). Also some nice herping spots around, like the Town Common. There's a great walk around the Ross River as well.

reef HQ, imax theatre, go up to thoringowa estate to look at the big houses:lol: Or go up castle hill and walk around

Dont walk Castle Hill lol thats hard to walk up But you can drive up :) Reef HQ is cool i think the museum next to it is boring but You might not and the strand is nice.

I wouldn't be walking to castle hill from townsville either! According to google maps that would take: 1 day and 2 hours, to drive, so I would imagine walking would take a tad longer. ;)

Well.. I don't know of that much stuff to do in townsville, even though I've spent a year and a half here! I do LOVE crystal creek, which is near paluma. Little crystal creek has some really nice waterfalls (if you go, when you get to the seemingly "top" waterfall, up the left side of it it looks like theres a "rock slide" thingy.. climb up there and keep going up as high as you can. You get to two tall, nice waterfalls up the top where there is hardly anyone (most ppl dont know theyre there or don't climb up) very nice place. Big crystal creek is awesome for swimming, and also great when theres rapids (I went when there was small rapids) cause the current is fun to play around in. Lol. Im not a child..

I like Pallarenda (or however its spelt) as it has far less people than the strand and isn't as built up and commercialised.

Haven't been to reef HQ though would like to go at some stage; practice my photography some more and check out the animals.

Also haven't been to maggie yet, or snorkelling or anything (damn uni, leeches all of your money reserves!)

If you want to see wild frillnecks, theres a lot at the university; seen quite a few around the JCU library. Also seen various snakes, including 2 spotted pythons, a brown tree snake and a slatey grey. not sure how many would be around at the moment.

Anyway.. hope you enjoy it :D

Oh yeah; I also love castle hill. drive up there and walk around- if you like birds, theres always some falcons up there (4 last time I went) and its also well worth going up at night as well. awesome views!

Paluma, Wallaman falls, crystal creek, Alligator creek, Ross river area right up to the dam etc...plenty to do and see here. Been quite a few snakes on the move again also with this warmer weather. Town common is good for rep spotting too.

About what times are best for herping at Town common? I'd never heard of the place, will have to have a look!

Not much around at the moment, although i did see a big skinky looking tail last time i was there. It ran into the bush too fast :( Wait til it warms up then do some of the walks. I haven't seen anything there before but i haven't been in summer for ages. There are apparently lots of keelbacks, a BHP (i don't know how many but quite a few uni students have seen him in the same spot) and carpets and brown tree snakes and all sorts of cool things. It is my mission to finally see something one day lol.

Late arvo to early evening would be good...its near Palleranda. (On the left on the way out - use golf club turnoff)

awesome :D thanks. and sorry for going off-topic
