what are the chances of suffering an allergic reaction to a bite?
That doesn't mean that you need to have been bitten in the past, you can be exposed by breathing in dry venom dust which will happen if you keep elapids.
Hehe is venom dust like fairy dust? That's so cool...
mate if you plan on keeping a ven ,and its from your area ,as I dont know where you are, your local hospital should have on hand the anti venine,if its not a species that is found around your area..they have another type that can cover all bites...your biggest first aid treatment is to ring 000 tell them you have been bitten by what ever ,apply your bandages AND REMAIN CALM AND SEATED untill the ambo arrives....moving around or trying to get yourself to the hospital by taxi or driving ,your only increasing your chances of further spreading and shortning your time .......if in the bush and you are alone ,no phone , and you have to move well thats a risk you take and hope you make it......alot to think about before getting an elapid..easy to say dont get bitten, but it happens to the most experienced, commonsense will save your butt quicker, then any hero type "george the snakeman attitude"yea, i personally would want to keep bandages right next to the enclosure along with anything else i might need. last thing i would want is to get bitten and hav to search for everything.
