heading to kenya & tanzania & egpyt for 4 weeks next year for honey moon
anyone been there?
anyone got any advice etc?

thanks

we where going to do south africa and egpyt, but im thinking kenya & tanzania with the masai mara and Serengeti will be less commercialised then kruger etc...

thanks in advance

Be very careful in South Africa if your going...... Lots of crooks every where! main reason why im living here now!
Dont really have anything else to say about the other places.

Have a great time!

Cheers Shane

Hi in 2005 my family and i went to Egypt for 2 weeks, we did all the touristy type stuff pyrimids and the nile for about 1 week and then for the next week we stayed in hurghada on the red sea i would definetly recomend this place as its nice, cheap and the water there is just spectacular.

yeah, thinking of doing a 16 day safari camping thing in tanzania & kenya, and a nile boat trip and also the pyramids etc

i spent alot of time in egypt.do all the regular tourist stuff, but also go out of your way to see the step, bent and red pyramid at saqqara. its only a day trip from cairo andthey are the best pyramids in egypt and bugger all tourists there.the best pyramid to go inside the red pyramid ,and you can get the opportunity to climb a small pyramid behind the bent pyramid.Dahab is an awesome place to chill out for a week or two after the chaos of the rest of egyptawesome snorkeling and diving ,organise a trip to Mt siani, and its gust a great to be.the cairo muesium is a must(allow the best part of a day in there)and dont miss the royal mummy room with Ramses2.
cheers

cheers slimebo thanks heaps for that info. will definatly go to red pyramid, love to go inside, where all the hyroglyphics all still in tact inside?

do you have any more pics of your itme there?
cant wait togo

if you go to Tanzania and Kenya (especially Kenya)......... DO NOT TRAVEL ALONE................... make sure you travel with a group. I had a friend went the re about two years ago, and there were guys with guns on the side of the road demanding money to be able to pass............................. held a gun to one of the daughters heads till they emptied their wallets. This was a few miles down the road from the official checkpoint...................... they lost about $500.
Any one travelling should be with a guide AND a large group of fellow travellers.

Never been overseas, but sounds like a great honeymoon, I hope you have a ball.

Haven't been to Africa but I've always wanted to, you're so lucky :( I've heard Kenya can be a really dangerous place to holiday at, Tanzania is probably the same. Check out http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/ they give danger ratings for practically everywhere.

ah,. i think we will be doing the arranged tours threw travel agents, and im pretty sure that you get a minimum of 2 guards armed to the teeth with you at all times,

kenya and tanzania just seemed less commercial, like the max people in our group will be 10 at a maximium. heard in kruger etc the groups are like 40+

going to see a travel agent tomorrow for more info and more brochures

has anyone personally been to kenya or tanzania herE?

heaps of photos.
there isn't any hieroglyphs,it was built before them. you just shuffle down a tiny shaft for 60 meters and it opens out into a big amazing room with a corbold ceiling, then you duck through a hole to a second identical room, then climb a staircase up to the roof and through another hole into another matching room, the planing and workmanship is amazing.much better than the single box chambers in the giza pyramids.also pay the extra and go to Nefertari's tomb in the Valley of the Queens.get tickets early because they only sell a limited number each day and words can't describe how stunning it is.do it last though, after the valley of the kings ,because if you see nefertari's first, you would be disapointed with all the others.
a few random photos
cheers

tanzania is one of the most commercial countries in the region. the majority of organised tours cost much more than in south africa. the ngorogoro crater and serengeti are usually sold as twin tour packages. if you do goto tanzania be sure to goto zanzibar, its beautiful and the diving is great.

my advice is to pick one safari cause you will see largely the same animals in all parts of se africa. kruger is commercial yes, but its still good. you can goto kruger in a rented car if you like, which is alot of fun. having said that a good guide can be invaluable. the dry season is better for spotting animals when they congregate around water sources. the season you go in will also determine the amount of fellow tourists you encounter, ie - european/american holiday time is packed.

if you really want a non-commercial holiday destination i recommend the ocavango delta in botswana. u camp in the delta and have to be pushed in (by a bloke with a pole) via mocorro (long boat). you dont see as many animals as you would in kruger, although u do see them on foot... but the landscape and overall experience make up for it. also the flight over the delta is amazing.

if i was you id do a tour taking in kruger, the ocavango and victoria falls in zimbabwe. chobe NP in botswana is also very good. and while youre in the region, uganda is an amazing country. kampala is the only capital city i enjoyed in africa, and with activities like rafting the nile, and sites like murchison falls and the mountain gorillas in the south west of the country uganda is simply awesome.

if you dont like commercial, do not goto egypt. as for the masai mara.. when you've got "genuine masai tribesmen" asking for money for a photo of them in traditional dress, then you see them 30 minutes later in used american brand tourist clothing it doesnt really scream non-commercial.

africa is a fantastic place, make sure you mix with the locals at every opportunity cause more than anything else, africa IS it's people.

ah, thank you slimebo looks awesome

have definatly made me re think which parts to go to.
