So I know in NSW we have a couple...and there's atleast one that I know of in Victoria...

What about overseas, in the states for example?

Has anyone ever been to a large scale reptile expo overseas? What was it like? Would you recommened them for everyone?

Where are the good ones?

Links?

Discuss.

P.s. Yes I am googling...but it's tough to tell the crappy ones apart from the good ones.

Snakebytestv go to a few of the expo's over in the states. I've seen the expo's they have in the states on TV doco's before. They look like great fun.

HAMM in Germany is very popular- I hope to have a look one day.

Yes Hamm is the biggest in Europe and there are many others around Europe and the UK. They have huge shows in the States, one of the biggest is probably Daytona.
I went to a couple in England and the variety of animals is just mindblowing.

I watch snakebytes a fair bit and they seem to go to a few expo's. They have the biggest setup i have seen.

The Reptilemania DVD is pretty good. It's got alot of footage from the Daytona expo in Florida. It's the largest expo in the world. You can buy it through Herp Shop or off petpages.com.au

Thanks for that Neil!

Can I ask a stupid question...how many people speak English at these expos?

Probably around 85-90% speak english, many are breeders from all over europe, some even fly in from the US to.

If your thinking about a trip over there, I would recommend it.
On the other hand it would be very frustrating not to be able to buy all those lovely exotic's and morph's etc. ;)

Cheers Neil

Sorry I'm a little late on this one, but oh well. In the US, Daytona is the biggest show, by far. Hundreds of vendors with most every reptile in the world. I've never been, but plan to soon.

The NARBC shows are probably second. They have three or four shows a year in defferent cities accross the nation. It's the biggest show that comes to Southern California and I never miss it.

Another that comes to So Cal is the Reptile Super Show. Not very good IMO. Great if you like corn snakes, bearded dragons, and leopard geckos, but I don't.

There are at least a dozen other big shows accress the country. Here's some links:

There are probably another hundred shows I'm not aware of, but there's the main ones.

In Europe, Hamm is the biggest, as well as an event called Snake Day. Put those into Google and you should get something.

Went to Daytona last year, if you get a chance, go. No vens but a mind blowing amount of critters that you don't normally get to see. Hundreds of vendors with every imaginable critter and or accessory.
Only problem is the 1000000 % humidity that time of year and the occasional hurricane. One hit just down the coast the day after we left.
All in all, a great experience.

It did? I was there for about five days after you left :p

It's a lot of fun and will really open your eyes to the world out there. If you chat to some of the most knowledgable breeders over there who have been in the game for 10+ years it gives you quite a perspective on things which most Australians completely lack. For most reptile keepers the largest American expos are really quite astounding the first time you see them, and if you get the chance to go behind the scenes at the big American breeders' facilities you'll understand even more about the way it all works and where we are headed.
