hey guys. ive kept a few species of smaller monitors now thinking about moving up.. im thinking of getting a spencer or laccie mertans etc just wounder how long they can be kept in an enclosure before they become to big and go out side?? i dont mind putting one in a pit but it will ahve to be a 1yr + before that can happen (renting atm) and what are some of the sizes these guys grow to... sorry havent really looked into it that much

cheers guys

That's a difficult question really. Like most reptiles it depends on how much you feed them, how hot they can get, whether you keep them feeding at a top rate over winter. A four foot tank wouldn't be a longterm home..... A year at most, maybe not even that. If you are planning to build/buy something more permanent, have it ready before then. I wouldn't start with a four foot tank, I would start with a 5' tank instead because you can get them a bit wider. That should last a year+.

cheers
