OMG we have just come back from our weekend to Sydney and we were lucky enough to go to the Wild Expo!!! WOW!!!!!!!!! There were some stunning snakes there!

Can anyone from QLD tell me what the licence requirements are for keeping and breeding Rough Scales?

not 100% sure but i think the advanced one lol

If youre in NSW you need class 2

Sorry- just realised you said in qld...... i only looked in the top right hand side of our profile

In QLD you only need to have your recreational lic to keep Roughies.

Had to find this out so that we could get our first pair.

They are a very interesting reptile. Not strikingly beautiful but just different.

Excellent thanks for letting me know that!!!! NOW I'm excited!!!!!!! We wished we had've been able to pick up a pair on Sunday at the Expo but we heard you needed advanced licence so we were a little disappointed but I'm guessing they just assumed we lived in NSW!!

Now I can't wait to get my own, they are amazing!!!

Im fairly sure you need the expensive licence to have more than 2.

so they are like woma's????? does anyone know for certain??? I couldn't be bothered contacting EPA as most days you can get different answers to the same question depending on who you talk to.

re Rough Scales

ile have to get some,John Wiegal had them as a expo spcial for 1000 each, they looked good, like the heads on them very big and chunky, would be an interesting snake to own and its looking achievable, who would of thought.

Roughies are just on basic - womas and GTP's are the only pythons on the restricted licence.

Ok so you need a restricted licence to keep gtp's?????

Now I'm more confused than before hahahaha!!!

Yes, you need a specialist permit for greens and womas. Not for rough-scaled pythons, however. My other has bred them before on a recreational license.

We're in QLD by the way and Australis is spot on. They're not restricted in QLD because their natural range doesn't include QLD and the QLD EPA only care about restricting pythons that have unfavourable conservation status in QLD.

You can keep up to two restricted animals on you rec licence, so you can have 2 GTP or 2 Woma or one of each. If you wanted to breed a restricted animal its just a matter of paying an extra couple hundred bucks to upgrade your licence. Ultimate Reptile Supplies, can't give you a link because i don't think they are a sponsor

On a side note, i was completely blown away by the cheap prices at the Expo, GTP's for sale for $1800, and if i had the cash i reckon i could have picked one up for $1600-$1700 with some friendly haggling. Roughies for $1000, it wasnt long ago that you were forking out 5 grand + for these animals. Fantastic

thanks everyone for your info!!

yeah I agree Coop the prices at the Expo were amazing and we'll be going more prepared next year!
