So I just fed our diamond, got the food down.. Now he's got a hold of his middle section, biting down hard and wont let go...is now triying to swallow.

Will he do any serious damage? We're heating up another mouse to try to distract him??
Any help would be great thanks.

Freaking out.

I think he is doing this in pain. I've seen snakes that have died in the position of biting their midsection.

Do you have a local reptile vet in your area? If so, call them now and get advice!

this doesnt sound good!

I've never seen it before, but if the above statement is true, then I wish I had some advice I could give you right now.

He's taken the fuzzy stbackwards... been keeping an eye on him... An ideas what we can do to stop him.
Wont let goand starting to bleed

Please help :(

How are you heating up your rats? Don't do it in the microwave coz they get really hot inside and can burn the snake if they aren't left to cool down enough. This could be one possibility.

Also, how big are the rats and the snake? Could be the claws or a part of the rat scratching the inside of the stomach lining.

pour cold water on him
under a cold running tap
thats would be my first step

DO that and we'll all try and come up with an answer for you, let us know if that makes him let go for a bit....

Yeh as above, hope u havent been microzapping ur mice to thaw, heat spots burn.. anyway whatever the case, too late to worry now, time to come up with some solutions... *thinking cap on*

we heat in warm water and check its not too hot. i think it might be the claws of the fuzzy, he's taken bigger ones before. but he might be havin trouble.
we're going to try to call the bloke we got him off...
fark

Chances of finding a vet open at this hour...Vinegar might help get off himself? Usually putting some near their nose makes them let go of what they got. Sheesh, doesn't sound good, goodluck.

maybee put him through an empty toilet roll to stop him turning back on himslef for a little while until you figure out whats going on??

You don't want to freak it out even more because if the rat is tearing the inside of the stomach then if you scare it and it moves it'll do even more damage...

Call your local vet on their emergency number (most have one) and get advice from them. In the mean time keep an eye on the snake but avoid touching it unecessarily

I use hot water to defrost and the weaner rats have huge sharp claws and Snakey has been fine, he has even had to break the front legs to get it down, sounds silly but could he have air trapped (gas). That can be very painful.

I hope all goes well.

it might stress him, but its going to stop him physically harming himself any more for a few moments while we try and get our head around whats happening

he's not biting himself anymore, trying to get hold of a vet somewhere. . he's just staring up toward the heat lamp now..
pretty sure it's his stomach pain, he's stopped moving the mouse down.
thanks 4 helping us out

I hate to say it, but you're probably not going to find a specialist vet open at this hour on a sunday night and a regular vet will probably have a hard time working out a plan of action for such a small snake.
