Not sure if you are aware of this but a surgeon by the name of Chris O’Brien passed away this morning in Sydney as a result of an aggressive brain tumour.

Chris was a prominent cancer specialist who specialised in head and neck cancers at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, he was a leader in his field and renowned for not only his medical skill but his bedside manner. He was a regular on Channel 9’s RPA series.

He was to be honoured this coming Monday with an Officer of the Order of Australia, for his contribution to medicine.

A short time ago Chris established a specialist cancer treatment centre at the RPA hospital called Lifehouse, www.lifehouserpa.org.au.

Lifehouse’s goal is, “…to transform the treatment of cancer and bring hope to the lives of cancer patients, their carers and families.”

Chris was one of this country's real heros, right up there with our WWI & WWII diggers. A real hero, moreso than the usual sporting idols we hold up as role models, Chris was the real mcoy.

Please, if you can make a donation to Lifehouse to ensure his dream is realised.

He was an exceptional man and my condolences go out to his family.

People like him very rarely come along.

I cried when I heard he was so close to death the other day, and of course today he has left us. My mum died last year and this is the first time I've wanted to cry over the passing of anyone since her....I really feel heartbroken....and I'm sure most of Australia does.

I honestly believe this wonderful man was put on this earth for a special purpose, and now his work is done. Yet thankfully, even without him in our midst, his work will continue. A truly great Australian son.

yes heard this morning.............. i didn't know who he was but by the sounds of things he was a great great man R.I.P

Sorry, only just looking up the old threads since getting back from hols....................... he certainly was a wonderful person..... I remember seeing him on a gardening program where they featured him during his battle, he was optimistic. Such a shame, such a waste, he really WAS an exceptional man, and surgeon. I remember his work with Dolores, a lovely old lady with throat cancer, remember her??????
