100% fake photo and not a very good one at that, clearly a photoshop rookie made this picture.
Your cartons still safe Jonno ;)

Your right thats a "pygmy stimpsons python" from Mossman, i can tell by the markings ;)

 nice one, seriously though have a look at the shadows on the knees from shorts, I know very faint you can hardly see them, now take a look at shadow on arm from snake which is very dark  no shadow on ground which may be due to low light and the edge of snake is to sharp and stands out making it feel like its not part of the picture, now if a snake like this was really captured and released of this gargantuan size surely there are more pictures taken which I'm sure we would all like to see ;)
When I've got the time I'll see if I can do a better job at fooling the masses

Turns out there's two stories about this snake...one set of photo's say 3.3m, the second says it's 10'1"?

Cris - The fact that after a few years of offering my deal (A carton for the chance to just see one over 3.0m, $1000 to just see one over 3.5m or $10,000 to purchase one over 3.5m) I still haven't had to open my wallet or go to the Bottle-O kind of says that snakes over 3.0m are pretty special...as does museum records and just about everybody who's seen their fair share of Carpets opinions. Generally these oversize pythons are very conspicuous too, establishing themselves as apex predators and becoming quite confident and basking in highly visible areas.

While bidding for snakes I will pay $3000+ for a legal red marsh snake.

Bax,

There's multiple other photo's of this particular snake...it's no photoshop fortunately.

Maybe they have messed around with contrast or something as it just looks totally weird to me, or am just the only one??? Maybe I need my eyes checked ;)

The photo looks real enough, just the way the animal is being held (at arms length, towards the camera) makes it very difficult to accurately judge its size, as holding it this way makes it look a lot bigger (and yes, throws off the lighting, etc etc)

Totally on the money Bax...being experienced in graphic design etc, that is definitely a fako.

Do I get a carton now? Bundy would be just fine thanks :)

I'd love to see more pics of it. Not because I think it's a fake either.

just to let you know it was measured at 3m 1inch so its great to see animals like this still hanging around in some places.

3m 1inch? That's the funniest measurement I have ever heard!

There are plenty of 3m plus carpets around if you know where to look. The biggest I have seen is just under 4m, from Townsville, and I have records of several 3m plus individuals from that area, as will anyone who has spent some years herping there. Mind you there are very few that push over 3.5m, and a 2m carpet can present as a very large snake. So when you find one over 3m, you know about it!

JONNO- clear out some space in your PM inbox, good Sir.

Ok Jonno, Since you mentioned beer it got me keen to get the tape measure
out on this carpet today.

The first pic is a pic taken a couple of months ago and the second pic is today
while measuring.

The measurement was 3.1m (10ft 2in)

The fellow with me and owner of the snake is John Cann and he has pictures of
his much bigger one which was from many years ago so we will try to find them
as it was measured and recorded back then and was much bigger than this snake.

Ummmm Bax, I see where your coming from. My missus is a Digital Reproduction Specialist (new name for pre-press) uses Photoshop etc for a living making celebs look hot when their not. She has worked on a heap of mags doing the covers etc and has been doing that job for 15 years. I've seen so many before and after pics of hers and know when there's a bad "deep-etch" which is what you describe, or a super imposed image. I see where your coming from and have sussed even the hand holding the snake which looks suss in this pic. Its like the X files you can be Mulder and i'll be Scully....
You can never really tell from these low res pics, I have blown it up and the resolution is not high enough to tell. I'll ask the missus for her opinion. keep your case for now Jonno.....
OR he could be a dwarf.......lol sorry, vertically compromised person for the politically correct!
