Can somebody id this butterfly.

It has just emerged from its chrysalis so its wings are not fully expanded but the colours might give somebody in the know enough to go on.

It was photographed on the Mornington Peninsular yesterday. I think it is on a species of Corea.

So - what is it??

Don't know what the chrysalis looked like.

The camera is an old Pentax "entry level" SLR. The current entry level model is now significantly cheaper ;-)

Looks like a caterpilliar i saw once.. might be coincidence though.. mmmmmmm

not sure on the species name but they are fairly common down here, when i lived in sorrento they used to mass cocoon in a certain tree at the end of my road each year, similar to a eucylypt, but it grew a spikey kind of seed pod which flowered

It is a common wood white butterfly like this one
the regent skipper has similar colours but the markings are
in different spots.

Andrew has it right, Delias aganippe. Another name for the buterfly is spotted jezabel.

All skippers are in the family Hesperiidae - very different. This is Delias aganippe (Pieridae).
