We have dingo X packs out here ,see plenty of them and hear them too ..I have no problem with them personally ,and believe they need to eat as well ...problems for farmers are another story ,they do major damage to stock and if its easier to take down a calf 'then a chase the roo 'that calf is cactus ...

I dont agree with some of the baiting and culling habits farmers use ...it is a rule that if dingo/wild dog baiting ,the farmer is suppose to let everyone know in the surrounding area ,that baits have been left out ..unfortunantly this is not always the case ,and I know of a few people that lost their domestic dogs after finding dingo bait ,that they were not informed had been put there ..

Farmers and people alike need to work together to put a hold on the wild dogs ,but done correctly not cruel like laming them and not caring if that animal is left hanging in a fence or shot in the side and didnt die on the spot (have seen this )...I feel for the wild dogs ..and if stupid people got their bitches de sexed, half the problems wouldnt be there with the dingos X breeds.
Most times the bitches are called to the pack ...I dont know wether a stray male would be accepted,I know my two dogs have had a few fights with dingoXs at the back of me, in the forestry, and have come back with a few scraps and scrapes ..

Dingos are funny animals. In the NT they are a fully protected species because they are considered native fauna. Probably because we don't have a big sheep industry.

You probably have a more pure strain up there, then we do down here ....

I really doubt it hey. Maybe in the really really remote parts of the country, same as all places, but there are alot of wild dogs in the NT that they would be interbreeding with. We see big packs of them when we're out hunting sometimes.

But i am of the opinion that if it looks like a dingo, acts like a dingo and does dingo things then why not call it a dingo even if it has a bit of lupus domesticus in it they are still the same species.

What about the poor farmers that are trying to put food on your table? You only have too look at the Dammage that Dingoes/ wild dogs cause during calving time to have a different opinion, Alot of the time they bite the *** end out of heaps of calves which all end up dying and they dont even eat all the ones they kill. Its even worst in sheep grazing country where they can kill up too 20 a night ( thats why the bounty is up to 200 in sheep grazing areas) As been stated most of these dogs are no longer pure.

HJey sorry i am very opinionated when it comes to this topic. I am a farmer and i farm cattle and sheep. i also live in an area where "dingo's" are meant to run wild. This is BS! I have not seen 1 not 1 pure dingo. Let alone even one that really resemble them.. Sure you see them walking on the sides of the raod some times but they still dont look really dingo. My partner has done a lot of work with dingo's in zoo's and they are a favourite of hers. My opinion is this... TOO many uneducated farmer accuse dingos of destroying their sheep. TOO many terrible dog owners let their un desexed dogs roam. You cross with with dingo's alongtime ago and now there are just too many "wild dogs" roaming. Dogs the size of pig dogs and working dog corsses. They are the ones we have trouble with wherre i am, Cross breds not pure dingos. And as for the RSPCA last night, The vet calryfied it was not a dingo, more likely a cross, yet the woman kept calling it a dingo.. there is a difference between dingos and wild dogs. People really need to be educated on that. I would rather have a dingo then a x bred wld dog on my property ne day atm.

I honestly cant keep up with roaming domesticated dogs and yet so many cry PURE DINGO"S getting my stock....

Sorry needed to rant here...

Dingo's are an introduced animal to australia, it is said that they came over from asia.
when i worked at the zoo i specialised in dingos - i love them, they are my second fav animal next to the wolf. saying this yes they are a pest in some places.
on our property we have a dingo fence, and this has worked for many years ( we have a no rec shooting on our property) i havent seen one on our land in over 5 years.... not to say there not out there :)

Yeah, wolves are pretty spekky. Love 'em.

There is nothing like being up in the mountains behind Canberra on a winter arvo when the dingo's start their howling. Its a haunting but peaceful moment.

Dingo's (pure) are thought to be virtually non existent on the mainland. They are pretty much all interbred with wild or domestic dogs. There is huge problem in the Monaro/Snowy Mountain region with stock loss due to wild dogs. While they are tagged 'dingo' DNA testing on destroyed dogs has shown that roughly 90% are hybridized with a higher percentage domestic dog to dingo.

While hunting I've come across paw prints the size of my hand so I'd say the dogs are getting pretty bloody big too.

Anything that competes with/eats stock or eats sown crops is classifieds as a pest.

i must be a pest as i eat stock and crops :p ;plus as much as i try i am more then likely 10 fold more destructive then any dingo

If you had been raised on a staton & seen the damage that Dingoes do to cattle, horses & sheep, you would understand how damaging they are. And having worked around them, I can say they are very dangerous too.

got it down to a T !!
i remember a kelpie bitch we had at the property who vanished for about a month, came back and had puppies that most cretianly were not crossed with any of out station dogs- if they had been born in the ranges and survived they would have added to the dingo x population.... they were freaking cute though, i names one ted :D lol

We had a dingo 'cross' (I could never see anything in her other than dingo) She lived to about 14.
BEST dog I ever had, and I have always owned a dog since childhood.

She really was a good dog! And beautiful too!

The Dingo is the only dog in the world that can remove its own fleas app..they grab a stick in their mouth and very slowly walk out into a creek etc..when the stick is covered in fleas trying not to drown they drop the stick and all done!.:D.cool i thought.

Well i was born on a station and i currently still have 2... so im not just talking crap.. i know that dingoes can be bad.. im just saying that i have more trouble with simple domestic cross dogs... there is a difference between dingo and wild dog. And there sure as hell is alot more of the wild dogs around now days.

Its a shame about the Fraser Island population of dingoes.
Very pure dingos and controlled properly would be a benifit to the area.
Now they all must go because they affect the tourism on the island.
Oh yes, and the best dog ive ever owned.

And the only reason they affect tourism on the island, is because of morons who continue to feed them and do the wrong thing.
idiot people = culled dingos :(
