Hey Guys, we found this snake skin at work today and we are wondering what it could be from. My work is located near the Sugarloaf State Conservation Area on the western side of Lake Macquarie NSW. We were thinking a brown snake? The total length of the shedded skin was approximately 2.4 metres.

Hi - I agree completely. it is not a brown snake, but a carpet python.

Adult male by the looks of it.... lol

Actually I have no idea, it does look like a carpet tho lol

G'day Splendid,

One of the most obvious ways to tell that it is not a venomous snake is the high number of midbody scale rows. Australian venomous snakes won't have any more than 23, and you can tell just by looking at that photo that there is significantly more than 23.

Cheers
