Ok hello people i am going to try and use this as a sort of petition

should pythons be legally imported to Tasmania ?

My Thoughts
ok in tasmania there is only 3 species of snake tiger snake ,copperhead and whitelip (whip snake )

the way tas is now there is no importation because people dont really understand snakes as we have no pythons to show that the arent a bad animal sadly in tasmania the first thing that comes to mind when someone says snake shovel comes to mind :cry::cry:

so i would like tasmania to allow people to import specilised species that will not harm our environment (i doubt they would survive the cold though) also if all the iported species are vet checked there will be no problems please post on the poll (if it works) and leave a coment

thanks tassie97

Must be a wonderful place if the only problem is the reptile situation.

Chase.

I'd say no, what about the ecosystem?
Many, many natives would be lost if they were introduced.

they wouldnt survie in the wild it gets down to -10 in winter

they would be gone in a week

people why are you saying no ???????????????

---------- Post added 04-Jan-11 at 02:02 PM ----------

so all the people saying no are saying we should handle tigers?

and people arent properly educated and there are not many products in tas for the few people that keep reptiles if we did get pythons there would be alot more awareness and products

also we would be able to keep amazing animals !!!

last poll about this was 81% yes this one is only 50% what is happening ????

I hope the people saying "no" don't keep snakes that aren't found naturally in their area...

As stated, they wouldn't survive in the freezing temperatures Tasmania experiences over winter, or even in summer! A lot of the python species found in Australia are from areas that have winters warmer than Tassies summers. I don't believe they would be able to operate well enough to sustain a wild population.

But Tasmania is untouched, hardly changed, well in comparison to other states the risk alone of environmental damage is scary. Not to say I don't agree that Tasmanian laws should loosen up, but there is a reason for it.

I believe if the rest of the world can have our snakes then i dont see why an australian state cant.
I can see why they havent changed the laws though, without population down there you dont have much pull.
As for them getting into the wild and surviving, well diamonds could have a chance if they found a hole deep enough for winter.
Keep plugging away at them and ralley the next government to come in you might have a chance.
Good luck.

Yes finally some sence :D there is no way pythons will survive and if the do survive they won't breed in the cold weather

What if, by a freak chance, they DO survive?
They'll eat just about everything they can.
Even if they DIDN'T breed, they'd cause such an impact.
And yes, I'm saying that you should handle Tigers.

ok heres my thought maybe if they were to get a easy common python and test run it like give it to the most exiperenced what they say if they say yes give it to the communaty then they can slowly try iffrent types

Oh No the big scary snakes are going to eat the poor little feral bunnies
