Hi Everyone,

My name is Luke and i live in Port Pirie SA

So i am just about to buy a 2yr old Jungle Python for $550. She will be my first snake and therefore im pretty nervious and excited about getting her.

IMG_1487.jpg #Please note shes close to shedding so her colors are milky.#

I have one major concern, the current soon to be previous owner doesnt use a thermometer at all. i know im a N00B but i did some research and am convinced that its better to have one espcially for helping with shedding. please correct me if its a myth.

this is the photo of her home, which was include in the sale price:

The one thing not include is the heat vine (bottom of tank) please can i get some feedback on whats better a heat mat or a heat rock and what size is best. If you think i need to add anything else let me know.

She seems to feed well and eats small rats and is not a fussy eater

Other than that shes pretty tame for a jungle (so im told) she was handled often by the last owners 2yr old daughter who used to give her a kiss.

I need a name for her too i am happy with suggestions but i want to pick something awesome.

anyway thats it from me for now please reply coz im eager for some feedback.

I noob too, but my first question would be have you handled this python and did you find her as easy to handle as her current owners say she is? Also why are they selling her? (ARe you buying someone elses problems?) The heating stuff I'll leave to those with far more knowledge than me. Nice looking python btw! :)

A thermometer? Or thermostat?
Both should be used in an enclosure like that, Is the light system plugged to a thermostat? If so that's all u need. No more heat lights or mats.
Heat rocks are very bad for snakes, they can get burned by them as they stay on for so long. Or so ive been told.. Great looking snake!! And bargain for the enclosure as well! Hope you two get along :)

Hi Luke, she looks like a very nice Jungle :)

As Leeloofluff said, you don't need a heat rock or vine, they are not something commonly used for pythons.
The heat lamp should do the job, and it has a cage around it, which is important.
A thermostat would probably be a good investment for you.
You will only need your heat lamp on during daylight hours, and the thermostat will stop temps from going below or over optimum levels for a Jungle.

You COULD not bother with a thermostat if you choose the wattage of your lamp wisely and carefully monitor the temps you are getting?
If you choose to do this, I would invest in an Infrared Temperature Gun. This will allow you to accurately check temps anywhere (hot and cold ends) in your enclosure.
The only other thing I would add, is that the rocks look great, but will be a pain to clean crap off ;)
Enjoy your new girl :)

Thanks for the feedback guys i now wont be looking at any extra heat resources :)

It has a normal heat light in it with a cage around it, as soon as i get her i will test the temps and will defently be monitioring carefully.

to kellcat i have handled her and she went from me to the owner to his partner to there two year old daughter and onto another geust with no problems.

the reason he is selling them is he is getting a breeding pair of some sort of water dragons (Not eastern his are more exotic) and needs the money to pay for stuff for them.

She's a nice one, I think you got her for a good price. I like how you have the enclosure set up too, I see my snakes on their branches more at night, not long after the lights go off they come out to play :)

Just check the Bible but when I read it it was eden not edan lol

I know you have a heat lamp already and it is a big expense to buy a snake.......but something to think about is a habistat repti radiator I am really happy with mine Ive got a shelf in the enclosure and my snakes love it and they dont blow all the time like the heat lamps do.

You need a thermostat...again habistat are a good brand......be careful with buying cheap they can be a disaster as far as reliability goes. The herp shop is a good place to start for really specialist supplies

Lovely looking jungle well done !!
Are you getting the enclosure as well it is a lovely size
