Just wondering how regularly your larger Scrubbies climb?! I'm currently setting up an enclosure for a rehab I have and am considering some heavy branches/ logs as additions, but will they use them??

I'm guessing the KISS principal applies to these animals, also, given their eventual sizes!

Any advice much appreciated,

Cheers,

I.V.

mine spends most of its time off the ground but it is still fairly small

Thanks, Farma,

My juvie from this season does the same thing (hasn't come to ground once), but I have read that, as they get larger and more confident, they tend to spend more time on the ground. I have noticed though, with this bigger animal, that as soon as I let it out for some socialising and exercise, it heads straight up into the rafters, though it spends most of it's time in the current quaranteen enclosure at ground level in it's hide.

I was at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and their Scrubbie was cruisin' around on his branches but the other one just sat there. I think it comes down to the individual snake

There is something on their habitat use in the wild.

.... I tried to attach a PDF file and the Manage Attachments is not working - it's been like that for a few days. ?????

I try to PM it to you. - can't do that either.

Send me your email and email it to you if you're interested.

Depends on if it's for looking at or getting out .My girl is quiet happy with no climbing stuff in her enclosure plus not having branches it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get her out .At over 10kgs and 3.5 mtrs long and an attitude to boot you don't need the hassles of a big scrub wrapping around branches .Different strokes for different folks i just find it less problems by having no climbimg stuff .

our 18+kg scrubbie at work is always on his branches , never seen him on the ground.

hope this helps

Thanks everyone for the input, all very useful. I was leaning toward no branches for the very reasons you mentioned, Joemal, but a recent study on habitat use WR sent me indicates that this snake "specializes in closed forest habitats" (82% of study sightings) and spends alot of it's time at the17-40 metre mark! So, branches it is!! Or, maybe logs, at 18+Kg :)!
