My First Eggs For The Season

One of my Darwin girls laid my first eggs for the season today. She laid 24 fertile eggs and no slugs. Nice start to the season. I took a couple of happy snaps and thought I'd share.

Good stuff, how was she when you lifted her off them?

She was fine. I have found a technique that works well for me. I place a towel over the female. I use the towel to unravel her and keep her head covered the whole time. They don't seems to mind as much this way. I then remove the laying box, thoroughly clean her enclosure, put her old hides back in and then give her a good wash down to remove any scent of the eggs. Then I put her back in her enclosure. I find this helps to settle them down quicker.

If the hatchlings are anything like the pair I brought from you from last seasons clutches, they'll be rabid feeders, grow like weeds and have a nice placid temperament.
