Well she tried to explain to the class how snakes swallow their prey whole and then spit back up the fur and bones. I tried to tell her ours def don't do that, but she was adamant that it is the way they eat. So.....I've made a nice PowerPoint presentation and will bring in one of my snakes for a show and tell. But if anyone knows of any snakes actually doing this I would like to know lol

Thanks australis. I make sure I mention that in my presentation:)

Beat me to it Australis. All the other eat one end poop the other unless the regurgitate it for some reason but that is the exception not the norm.

And to think these are the people 'educating' people. Oh dear.

Snakes that eat whole eggs regurgitate the shell.

Is this true of any snake that eats an egg, or egg specialists? I think some snakes would just digest the shell and that it would actually have some nutritional value?

I know of a case of a Stimmie eating an egg and am fairly certain all was digested as normal.

oh dear god ... that's just scary thinking that this is what our education system has come to lol. Teachers that can't even get the simplest things correct o_O
if you can, get someone to video you presenting this to the teacher & the class haha. I really want to see her reaction!

Good on you for educating the rest of your class correctly, and standing up for what you believe in :)

She probably just got them mixed up with owls. I had an argument once with my Classical Studies teacher back in high school because he mixed up Aphrodite and Venus, said that Aphrodite was Roman and Venus was Greek. We argued back and forth for about 10 minutes before he pulled the detention slip, then afterward came back to me (just before detention) and apologised. He also rectified his mistake in class the next day, so I wouldn't be *too* hard on her, especially considering the misinformation prevalent in society concerning reptiles, and snakes in particular.
For a country that grows up around this kind of fauna the education is dismal. There needs to be an education standard in place, if only for survival of reptiles and humans alike.

Teachers are people too guys, everyone makes the odd mistake or has off days, doesn't always make them totally retarded.

Egg Specialists have a piece of there spine designed to crush the egg then they absorb the yoak and regurgitate the shell :)

Yeah thanks for that. I remember seeing it on a doco. I wonder why they regurge the shell? maybe it's just not energy efficient when the rest of the egg is so packed of easily absorbed nutrients.

And yes teachers do make mistakes but it would be a shame if this one continues to peddle misinformation purely to save face from a student.

How interesting. Hope your presentation goes well. as mentioned above it wuld be great to have it videoed and uploaded for us all to see too. :)

i had a guy who insisted i was wrong and that my jungle was a king brown......lol it was bad cos he was telling everyone around him that its a king brown?!?!?! but i told him ive been bitten by my jungle heaps and im not dead so pretty sure its not a king brown aswell as the fact that they look completely different. i just think people who dont know alot just believe every story they hear

i think the big serpent in conan the movie ate like that (spitting out a skeletin) .....maybe you could get arnie to do a presentation to your classmates, lol
