I just thought I'd make this post to share what happened today and so it may help some others :)

Last night and today has been quite windy here, but I didn't think much of it. However, when I went downstairs this morning to get my car and go to the shops, the bonnet of my car was scratched so much it looked like someone had taken sandpaper to it- I figured out that the wind must have been blowing the bamboo screen I use to block sight to the underneath of my house (the screen rolls up when I want to get the car in or out). So, lots of swearing but not much I could do about it at the time, so I went to the shops and then made a detour on the way home to Supercheap auto to see what I could get to try and mask the scratches a bit, because this is a new car (for me) and it had a fantastic paint job before!

The guy at supercheap had a look at my car and reocmmended "Meguiar's scratch X fine scratch and swirl remover." So I bought it, brought it home and put the car under the house to get it 'cool to the touch' before applying this stuff. I've got some photos below to show before, during and after photos. There are some faint lines still present on the bonnet afterwards, but is SIGNIFICANTLY WAY WAY WAY better than it was!

The scratches

Wow, loving the improvement. Nice recommendation and good job at the application. :)

I've now decided to leave the screen secured up when the car is here, and down only when it isn't! It sucks because I havent had this problem in the previous 2 years when I've had the old commodore that I couldn't give a damn about lol!

I'm not too great at using car polish and similar products, so I'm happy with how this turned out. I spent AGES doing it, and now know every little ding and the tiniest of defects in the bonnet lol.

Hopefully this thread can help any others, anyway. I'm so glad I found this stuff!

yea it's a good brand I use to use there crome cleaner for my Harley and it was just like looking into a mirror wicked stuff
Cheers Deano

Thank you for posting this. A couple of years ago one of my sons decided to use the side of our car as a canvas. We have tried to buff it out to no avail but this might just remove the scratches :)

If they're deep scratches it may not work, but you could still give it a go. I think the bottle was $16 or something and I used very little of it, really!

yeah, those scratches are just the clearcoat so it would come out quite easily (after buffing for hours!). If you buy one of the buffing machines that look like a grinder, not the sander looking ones they are awesome and cut out a lot of the effort. You just have to be careful not to burn the paint with them!

Scratch X is awsome stuff, as long as your finger nail doesn't catch on the scratch you can remove it with a bit of elbow grease, working across the scratch seems to work better for me , it's also good for removing paint scuffs and car park marks.

thanks for that I am going to go get some for my car......my darling dogs and their darling nails bless them...it just might get it out !!

my bush car looks like that all over but no point fixing it. Every time we go out we're pushing through scratchy stuff again.

Looks much better, good job :). Most cut and polishes would have done that without too much of a drama. If you want to spend the dollars and get paint correction done, it will remove 100% of them. They measure the depth of the paint, so it comes out perfect.

http://forums.finalinspection.com.au/showthread.php?t=4826PM me for details on product (this isn't a plug, just a good product, I haven't personally used it, but have seen the results.

That forum is dedicated to the best paint care you can buy for cars. I wouldn't buy it unless I had a nice new import or Euro, but it's definitely the best.

Cheers Abnrmal.
