So sad to see. If i had a shop like that i would have gotten a sprinkler system for sure. with so much electrical equipment its a bit of a no brainer. poor guy. poor snakes.

I was up at 5:30 am and was greeted by this news on Facebook , first thing I did was pull apart all the racks and enclosures and call the test and tag company

Ill be going home to test all my equipment tonight after seing this, very sad.

My sincerest sympathies. All that work, and those poor animals! It's hard enough losing one, let alone an entire collection in one night.
Deepest condolences, best wishes and strength to you.

Thats so horrible :( looking at the photos mad me feel sick. Those poor snakes :(

That is just awful, my sincere sympathy to the owner.

Testing and tagging may find a faulty appliance. They are simply testing the insulation resistance of an appliance, the earthing etc and making sure that it is safe to use and that you wont get an electric shock. They don't find hot spots in bad DIY wiring, hot spots created from plugs that are not plugged in correctly (hanging out a bit) etc etc. We used to get a thermal imaging specialist in to check our electrical work out for hotspots. He has a special camera that see's the hotspots in electrical joins, appliances, switchboards, circuit breakers/fuses and so on. But anyway, test and tag is an OH&S thing brought in to protect people form electric shocks.

This story is very sad for the snakes and owners :(

That really sucks, I just went around checking and re-checking all my enclosures, heat pads and heat cords. What a terrible thing to have to deal with, poor snakes:(

Sorry to hear of there loss. Its terrible

The thought of what that must have been like in there for the animals is terrible. This will hit the owners in a lot of ways. Thoughts go out to all involved.

Really bad news!
It's reasons like this why people shouldn't wire there own stuff.
Not saying they did. But it can happen so easily.

This was a large commercial breeding farm
Bit like battery hens
The reason for the fire had nothing to do with someone 'wiring their own stuff'

I don't get what this is meant to mean longqi? How is this relevant to the fire..?

oh it didn't embed :\

I was simply saying that this fire was in a commercial business and when I was in this facility there is no way known that they would have used dodgy wiring
It was extremely well set up and everything was above reproach as any commercial business should be
I compared it to battery hens because it was a breeding facility and set up in a similar fashion as most large breeders have to be set up to compete on the US/European market

First Bob Clarkes place and now this and Bob is still trying to heal smoke affected snakes several months later
Bad year for snakes in USA as both these facilities had some exquisite reptiles

The fire started next door and had nothing to do with heat lamps, heat pads, faulty or home done wiring

 oh my god... I'm sitting here lost for words looking at those photos. my heart goes out to the people involved. it's definitely heart-breaking. I cannot imagine the suffering those snakes would've gone through trying to escape & being burnt alive  R.I.P little snakes.
Devistating loss for the owners, I hope they can get back on their feet.
