Title pretty much speaks for itself. Just wondering if anyone knows why these guys cant be kept here. Seems so weird given the closely related species that are allowed. Just had to cancel my purchase of them :( Not Happy!

Its very strange some of the species that are not allowed, Oedura castelnaui is one of the easiest geckos to keep and very common in captivity in NSW and QLD but for some silly reason VIC wont allow it

Yet they'd allow us to keep crocs and vens on an advance licence with no other quams apart from "pay us more" (not that I'm complaining), go figure.

Species list is very out dated.
Fingers crossed we can start keeping wheeleri this year.

That is a shame hope they update the rules and regulations

move to W.A the keeping list is way better (Sarcasm)

If they werent being kept in Victoria when the lists were created, many years ago then you can't keep that species. The exception is if someone has put in a submission and they are added at a later date.

If any Victorian keepers want to make suggestions/submisions of changes to our licensing system, it really is quite straight forward. A submission just has to be put forward to WPATC (Wildlife Possession and Trade Advisory Committee)
WPTAC is made up of people/specialists in different area's, for reptiles we are represented currently by Peter Comber.
WPTAC meets with the department regularly to disscuss submissions and alterations to the licensing system. The last change to the wildlife lists came into effect on Oct 1, 2009.
The current set of wildlife regulations is due to expire in June 2012.

If anyone was keen on making a submission to change our wildlife act (eg, ad a new species), you may have a very small window of oportunity to get it done now.

Peter Comber regularly writes WPTAC updates in the Victorian Herpetological Society's online newsletter "Odatria" (a good reason to continue supporting the herp society). It is free for anyone to download here- Victorian Herpetological Society ? Odatria
You will find Peter's contact information in his articles, along with links to the relevant forms for submissions.

On a side note, I believe almost all previous submissions to put new animals on the 'allowed to keep' list were approved in the past, its just a matter of getting someone to put a submission in!

I hope this helps, any other questions feel free to PM me.
Andrew
