I have a Woma Python that is very sick. He has broken out into blisters and has RI. I have taken him to the vet but he doesnt know anything. The Vet did give me Baytril to give to all of my snakes as the other two have it as well but the Woma seems to be getting worst, and is the only one with the strange blisters, swollen throat and bright green poo.... I have all the temps set higher. Does anyone have any other info on what i could do or what im dealing with?

Not every Vet is a specialist for reptiles you know. Don't blame them.
Do some research into a good reptile vet. That's what.

'Blisters' and a respiratory infection, particularly in multiple snakes indicates that your husbandry and hygiene is inadequate/inappropriate for the needs of the snakes. If you are in townsville, go to Aachilpa veterinary hospital, they have a good 'exotics' vet there, I have worked with her.

Im not blaming the vet.. i have passed on phone numbers for him to contact Danni Brown.. He is a reptile specialist. But hard to get hold of. Im new to Mackay and dont know of many places around here. I am very particular with the Hygiene and husbandry of all my pets. I will contact the place in Townsville thank you very much for that. Its just the Woma Python that has those symptoms. The jungle python and Bredli are fine now and only had slight symptoms. There is a few people that live in my house hold and have trouble listening to directions and dont do that's. So its some times hard to control these things.

Yeah blisters and ri in several snakes could possibly mean husbandry, are you new to north qld, it could just be as simple as what worked for you down south won't work up north were its warmer and more humid.

The jungle python we brought had RI and i wasn't aware of this. i dont claim to be a reptile expert thats why im asking for advice on this forum.

Dr Mike Goulet I heard is quite good.

or try going along or asking at the NQHS, the Nth Qld Herp society. Great ppl there

If you're in Mackay go and see Dr Paul McGeown (Works with David Lemmon at Northern Beaches Vet Hospital). He's a JCU graduate with an interest in reptiles (he's worked with Dr Robert Johnson in Sydney). If its out of his league (eg not responding to appropriate first or second-line therapy) he has the contacts to get advice.

The issue i seem to have when i call the Vets etc is that they wont talk to me over the phone.. The reason i'm told is because they would be providing a free service. I will try and see Dr McGeown. Thank you.

Its not so much that they are providing a free service but a poor quality, second rate service. They can't see the animal or examine it and to thoroughly assess and treat any sick animal requires a bit more than just the basic info you could give over the phone.

If its a cost issue for you then discuss it with the vet as most will offer options as no ethically-minded clinician will refuse an animal treatment as it is an animal welfare issue.

I studied with Paul, he's a good guy and will seek the right information to help you out if needed. When you actually go in and consult with a veterinarian that can see your animal, they can then call a reptile specialist elsewhere with an accurate description of the problems and get advice on other methods to treat and manage the conditions.
