Corruption indeed.. I'd also love to know the conditions
The snake was in that prompted its confiscation..

i understand that this animal is axanthic and was valued at over $20,000 by the authorities........and then given to one of their employees.

Where did you hear this? First we've heard of it. How exciting! we just thought it was a MD :D

Unless you have your info wrong, i don't know if you know your stuff..

Also, Webless is a contractor.. Doesn't even work for OEH.. Works for an agency doing IT.. lol

None of the recent ballots had an MD in it, so how did you 'win it from a ballot'?

offering to supply confidential information to members ( reptile news - thread 5375, now deleted ).

Ah no.. no he wasnt, lol You're twisting words..

Also.. you didnt answer my question about it being axanthic and worth $20000? that sounds like confidential information.. where did you hear it? It's just a MD LOL

That snake doesn't look pure MD, looks more like this MD diamond coastal cross to me.

Sometimes the narkiness on this forum still surprises me.

Lovely looking little snake you have there, And super-bonus if it was free!! Well done, and glad to hear his scales are healing up nicely.

Just because someone is a contractor does not mean that they should not be subject to the same rules as a full employee whilst they are involved with the department. This is because whilst involved in the department they are privy to the same information and priveledges as a normal employee would be......being a contractor is just a technicality usually put in place so you can be asked to leave without consequence.

Whether the snake was won 'ages ago' or recently the issues still remain.....

last I was reading internet etiquette LOL meant laugh out loud, please correct me if I am wrong....but I dot think this is a laughing matter at all.

i know that ICAC will be making that determination

Also.. you didnt answer my question about it being axanthic and worth $20000? that sounds like confidential information.. where did you hear it? It's just a MD LOL

it's not confidential at all, i have no obligation not to repeat matters put to me by oeh.

They don't put " Values " on snakes.. A snakes value is based on what someone will pay based on hype and availability.. Stop trying to sound intimidating. The snake is worth nothing.. certainly not $20,000, it's sad that all you can see is the money and not that the snake is in a good home.

You're welcome to contact ICAC, there is no corruption here, it was a normal ballot entry same as anyone else ( it does not state anywhere that employee's/contractors may not apply ), Are you aware you are publishing slanderous allegations against the NSW government as well as deformation of character against someone you know nothing about.
have you considered the legal consequences?

Sounds to me like you have a case of sour grapes...

It also makes you look petty and childish attacking someone who is just a nice person trying to share a pet snake with you all..

Do OEH confiscate snakes before or after they've valued them?

How randomized is their Compliance Procedure or whatever policy allows them to confiscate animals?

OK so what I've got from this is:
that OEH or DEECW or whoever runs Ballot lotteries, yippee... now that we know about these we can ALL enter and take our chances to win pretty snakes! Yippee! How often do they happen? Where are they advertised?
However, there does seem to be some confusion over the type of this little black and white MD or whatever it is - is?, that just supports previous author's (lots on different threads) statements that the governing department - does not know what's what - even to give it away...lol..
There may or may not be some corrupt insider trading or giving away going on?...
but the snake has a nice home and is now well cared for...
the origins of said snake may or may not be friends of herping journal?
cause how are you going to know the true worth of something - anything is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it... and in this case (the snake) was given away...
Honestly wishing you all would grow up and just enjoy snakes...

Ok, I'll grow up! *puts blinders back on, resuming ignorant bliss* :D

I love how people scream 'slander' (a long since abolished term) and 'defamation of character!!' without even understanding the Defamation Act.
If people actually took 5 minutes to read Division 2 - Defences, they would be less likely to claim victimhood and get all defensive.

As a matter of public interest, there's no defamation of character to be seen here.

as a metter of public interest......these things should be bought to public attention

I don’t know the story and I’m onlyguessing and trying to read between the lines here.

1) this is just a random hypothetical. Is there a possibility the snake in question was part of a recent raid and if so there would have been a monetary value applied to the list of what was seized?I seem to recall some news story where a total monetary value was mentioned.the way to get an accurate total is to add up the individual items. is there anything on the recent seizure lists that resemble this animal?

2) I’m curious as to what the ethics position of OEH is or even if there is a department ethics guideline? Usually when an entity or business runs any sor tof competition the fine print says no employees or their immediate relatives are allowed to enter (so there’s no accusations of corruption or deals for the boys etc.) which is pretty standard in this country. Whether its law or just an ethics guideline I’m not exactly sure but the bottom line seems to be its ethical to have this ethics policy and position attached to all competitions or similar just so there’s no finger pointing at employees winning.

3) A contractor in this instance would in my opinion be classed as an employee by any reasonable person with an actual ethics standard. especially someone with IT access to the information on the OEH database

4) if the person is a contactor then why is OEH contracting out IT work to"who ever" and giving these people access to our PRIVATE INFORMATION!! I find this unacceptable and would have thought a sensitive and private database of people’s collection information and personal private details would be under the control and protection of a senior OEH employee and not given to "anybody they contract to do work" who else sees our private information??

5) When a seized animal dies in OEH care or under their responsibility what’s the procedure for documenting this? are there several photographs with any distinguishing marks or head patterns taken and signed at witnessed by a vet, witnessesd etc. to avoid any problems or accusations?

I’m not suggesting there’s any problem here or any misappropriation whatsoever.. but just curios if there’s a enforced policy and procedure that’s followed or if someone just writes this down with no actual records and identification done and verified with a vet report of the cause of death etc.?

if there’s no procedure then it may be possible to manipulate situations with no records or identification procedures. Now as I said I’m not suggesting anything is wrong or has been done that’s inappropriate at all. I’m curious what procedures or guidelines are in place and if there’s nothing then maybe the system need a drastic overall by an ethics and security specialist who conduct audits for sensitive government information.

the Government and its departments should be accountable and have suitable procedures in place to protect our information and appropriate guidelines to follow to keep everything above board and accountable. I’m just asking is there any ethical and security standards in place and curious to know what they are. It should be available under the freedom of Information Act but can’t see why it would have to be found through that method rather than anew simple questions.

Im definitely not accusing anyone of anything or suggesting anything is wrong at all and have just tried to document some thoughts running through my mind due to a few controversial posts in this thread.

who else if anyone at all has access to our personal private informatiion and/or what we have listed in our collections besides OEH employees?

I’d really appreciate an answer the above questions concerning privacy of our OEH details. I feel this is a duty of care issue that needs to be answered. Thanking you.
