Hi all,

I try my best to avoid posting threads and utilise the search bar as much as possible, however even Google gives me a vacant stare with this one. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any Death Adder breeders or stores that sell them? I've found one or two old expired ads and a site called smuggled that has some useful info but I cannot for the life of me find any breeders or current ads.

Could anyone shed some light for me? I know I'll need to do my Venomous snake handling course and get my specialist permit, that's fine, but before I do that I'd like to know that they are even readily available. Considering how cheap the adds were selling them for ($60-$100) you would think they were everywhere :S

Thanks guys :)

Chris

Death Adders usually cost between $200-600 depending on species, morph and breeder, the best place to find ones for sale is to go to reptiles down under or the herp shop, both of these will occasionally have them for sale.

I know a couple of people who sell some of the best I've seen... From my knowledge, they havent all finished dropping babies yet, but they arent too far off... You should start to see some being advertised very soon in the next few months... Depending on when they dropped babies etc... Some might even be ready in the next few weeks... You never know... They're really top blokes to deal with too...

I'll have some barkly's ready to go in the next couple of weeks once they have had a few more feeds.

How do u go about getting them to feed seen Afew new New borns and they are tiny! Do they just take to pinky mice or do u have to give them lizards? And if so to get them on to mice do u have to sent or will they finally take to them.

Barkly's were 11g when born and a pinky mouse barely leaves a lump, other locales are born smaller though.

wow 11g the wellsi were only around 5 grams and no bigger at birth
i had to wait everyday and when a mouse had just dropped a litter,
i would wait an hour until i could see the pinkies had some milk then i would
assist feed some adders...

You dont have to scent them, some will take to mice, but most wont
thats where you have to force feed a few times, but if the prey is to big
they die,if you feed to frequently they die, this is just my experience and iam sure
others do it alot differently and there are other ways to get them going .....

Death Adders seem to breed later for me than most people, or maybe it's more the type that I'm focussing on (the albinoes - the hets/normals from the same line bred late for me too). I've had them born as late as September and October, usually around May/June. Come to think of it, the other types of Adders I've bred went earlier, so it's likely the line rather than what I'm doing. I have gravid ones, but none have had babies yet.

I've never had much trouble getting Adders feeding. I've never bothered using live or scenting or force/assist feeding or any tricks to start them, just thawed pink mice. When you get the knack it's pretty easy.

If you just want basic Death Adders you shouldn't have any trouble finding some cheaply. Barklies might be a bit pricier, but they're pretty cool - big, tough and feed well (I just comment on them 'cause junglepython said he had some babies). I got rid of a lot of my localities to focus on the albinoes, but there are heaps to choose from and if you ask around you'll find some pretty cool stuff. It's not a bad time of year to be looking for Adders, especially if you want babies.

Great choice of snake! You'll love them! Adders are awesome. Good luck! :)
