I'm going with Austrelaps ramsayi based on the description and photo.

Wow that looks just like it! Is that breed similar to the copperhead suggested? And do you know anything about the type of snake?

A.ramsayi is a Highlands Copperhead

Just curious, where in the BM was it?
It looks like the scrub around Katalina race track

Yep, Highlands Copperhead is a common name for Austrelaps ramsayi. They're fairly common in the upper mountains. The ones I've seen in the mountains have been very dark on top with the pale copper-edged scales on the sides, just like your photo.

Katalina, is that how they spell it these days? Originally it was a fun park with a catalina flying boat in a dam, thus the name. The local government kicked out all the aboriginal people who had lived there to make the race track
 
Catalina park ,
it was a race track for cars and motorcycles,and the snake is most likely a copperhead,ive found a few of this species lately
