Wow, imagine how good you would feel getting back onto that boat! I needed to run and grab the toilet paper, and that's after just reading the article. Would have been a fantastic experience and some times a once in a life time experience, if you catch my drift (Pun intended.)

ive been in the surf when one decided to come in and have a little sticky beak , you can tell there a shark for sure when they surface like this one , with its back just out of the water and you get to see those 2 big fins pointing straight up in the air , first thing i thought was dolphins dont do that:shock::shockplus it was a hell of alot bigger than any dolphin id ever seen) i ended up scrambling up the rocks they where alot closer than the beach as it was a point break and there weren't many waves coming anytime soon so that wasn't an option

When I was about 16-17 me and my mates were at Newcastle beach body boarding. We were sitting out the back most of the day everyone was all talking surfers and bodyboarders ( don't like each other normally weird that we were talking ) and all if a sudden there was a fin in front of all of us surfers/bodyboarders all just went dead quiet dead still, felt like forever but it was probably about 10 seconds.

Then the dude next to me was like its dolphins more had come across since the first one.

Know the felling well. Had a worse experience with a bigger one about 25 years ago at seal rocks in NSW. I was never more happier in my life then when I finally got back into the boat . Hint. Never spearfish near seal colonies ))

Whites tend to rush in hard for live prey but if it is not sure if it is prey ( or large dead prey) then they circle like that until their curiosity is satisfied or they work up enough courage to give an exploratory "nip". Still, getting out of the water is the sensible option.
I remember spear fishing on the Outer Gneerings off the Sunshine Coast. I had lined up a coral trout that was high in the water column when the biggest Noah I have ever seen (and I have seen thousands) passed under me at speed, its dorsal fin just missing me. At that moment I give up diving for the day and went back to the boat. The frustrating thing was that I was escorted back by a school or 20 large snapper that I wasn't game to tackle.

More evidence to support the growing argument that they are not cold blooded killers. There is a group that swim with them in the wild off South Africa with no adverse encounters. It would be a hell of a rush to be in the water with one given their bad reputation. Don't snakes fall into a similar catagory due to streotypes & misinformation?

Yeah it's sorta cute the way it's investigating. I would LOVE to swim with them. I'm getting my scuba license currently to do just that (I had to tell my bf it was to play with dolphins so he'd come and learn with me......I'm sure he'll be more into it closer to the time). Yeah it's sorta cute the way it's investigating. I would LOVE to swim with them. Yeah I've always been more at home in water than on land. I'm always cold then I get in the ocean and I feel fine it's weird. Awesome-I can't wait! We swum at the aquarium (no not scary at all) but those massive bull rays gave me a hug it was so cool they had a 4m wingspan so I was totally smothered.

Oh cool! Thanks man. I've done a little dive with grey nurses and bronze whalers (little ones). They try to spook you by swimming at your face haha got a lot of attitude.
When I'm up in QLD next I will def check it out thanks heaps for the tip.
Anyone in Vic-you can feed small sharks in Dandenong at the Shark and Ray centre. They are only about 80cm but feeding them is soo fun. They take little nips at you, very cute. They have a tawny nurse shark there too you can pat/feed.

Rissi , i have thought about doing it myself , then i thought about when i have been in the surf with them and i thought twice , i dont want to pay to be ***** scared not that i think they all want to eat us , just what they can do to me if they do decide to have a little nip i have dived over in indonesia though , great experience but they dont exactly do all that much training with you , my first dive i got showed how to use everything sowed me a few hand signals and told me a few other little things then chucked us in on a shallow part of the reef before we went down further ended up going 18m then went to a place to dive with the manta rays , that was cool

thomasssss Indonesia sounds amazing! I actually think it's in a way better not to get that much training for tourist dives cus the more you learn the more you worry about so the less you know the more relaxed you are. Even after learning the skills our instructor is like "see? easy!" but people overthink it sometimes.
I don't know like any animal I guess. You're more likely to get hurt by someone's rogue dog me thinks. and dude...have you snakes! what are you worried about?? hahaha

Rissi , yes i do have snakes but you cant compare the size of their mouth and the damage they do to a big shark , big difference like i said i know they dont all want to eat me its just that if one did decide to have a nip well lets just say ive seen the damage that a small bull shark did to this guy i knows foot , i dont wanna go near any big ones if i dont have to

yea it was pretty cool where we went awesome reefs in spots there was these massive sort of telegraph pole shape things in the reef , and the little creatures where cool 2 , i saw a big clam thing like one of the massive ones with the top half opened think ive got some pics somewhere on my computer the dive instructor took for us

i should also say that they normally send down a dive instructor to every 2 people but on this day we where the only people on the boat and because their our friends we all got our own instructor so we were pretty safe
