There is a photo of an albino short neck in John Cann's book, Australian Freshwater Turtles, so they have been around for a while, but they are probably very rare. It wouldn't be surprised me if these were descendants of the turtle in photo (not saying they are, just that it wouldn't surprise me if they were).
