hey guys i got a 8-9 month old stimson on saturday its in a click clack at the moment but i was told to put him in the enclosure because he wouldnt have to get used to another one in the future is that alright or should i leave him in the click clack? Why does the snake always hide in the warm end i never see him out his always hiding under a rock is that normal? ( im assuming it is).. i got the thermostat in the warm side and sometimes the temp drops to around 28C is that alright and is set to 28C on the cold side where the enclosure thermostat is that alright?and when do you reckon i should feed him the pet shop told me to feed him on wednesday?sorry about all the questions guys its my first snake and really happy i got it so i want to give the snake the best i can
thanks
chris

I personally like Enclosures, if you can afford one I think that's better.
New snakes don't do much until they have chilled, shouldn't take much for a stimmi ther very Docile creatures. After a couple of weeks n a few feeds move the hide to the cooler end if you want to see him more often, he will venture towards the heat.
You will want the warm end around 32 and the cool end around 28, but over night temps are cool to be as low as 24.
If you only just got him i would wait a day or so then offer him a feed, its Likly he wont eat, if he refuses try every second or third day till he eats. And if your feed is good size every 5-8 days is a good schedule.

I wouldn't put him in an enclosure just yet, not until he has had some feeds and settled in. I also wouldn't handle until he's eating for you. Last thing you want is for him not to eat. Leave him alone for a week and then try feeding. I also recommend a heat cord rather than just putting the click clack in the enclosure, too hard to regulate the heat in the tub I find. Another reason to be careful about putting him in the enclosure too soon is his size and the fact that he will be able to get through the smallest gaps eg: the gap between the sliding door. And, even though I work in a reptile shop, I am going to say that most pet shops don't know what the hell they are talking about.

Just make sure when you do put him in his enclosure, you provide hides for him so he can feel safe. Also make sure youre not to keen to pick him up for atleast the first week (I know its hard).

yeh I think I might just let him be till Wednesday till I feed him hopefully he eats... I was reading on a care sheet that the tongue is meant to be blue my snakes tongue is red is that normal or should I take him to a vet???

Good rule of thumb is give him 2 weeks to settle in undisturbed other than topping up water, feeding and poop removal. Then you can look at handling him/her. How big is the snake roughly (as age doesn't mean a whole lot with snakes) and how big is the enclosure?

this thing doesnt let me post pictures ( no idea why ) but its longer than my for-arm so its quite long... im getting kinda worried the guy is always in a hiding spot and really have much room to move in the click clack... tried to feed it didnt want it so i left the food in the cage hopefully he eats it * fingers crossed*

i havent measured anything but i know the size of the enclosure i have is big enough for his entire life

Leave it alone for a week to settle, it's hiding because it is not settled. If you keep trying to feed it it will only make things worse. Try and feed in a week and if it doesn't eat leave it alone for another week and try again. They can go ages without food,

this is starting to scare me a little.... so i came home from work and the guy isn't out of the click clack so i looked under the rock and his just staying there... so i put my hand in to see if he will do anything he just jumped onto my hand and didn't move at all at the pet shop and the day i brought it home he was exploring hardcore now it seems like he has lost all his energy and doesn't want to really do anything at all...should i be worried??? at the moment i got a thermostat that gives me reading on the warm side and a thermostat that built into the enclosure.... why do i feel the click clack is too small for it? cuz i can only fit a water bowl ( not to big and a hide spot in the warm side and theres a bit of room for him to move but thats it........

Just leave him alone. He isn't doing anything because he is scared and insecure. Every time you harass him by checking on him he will get more stressed and it will take him longer to settle in. Where did you get him, did they not explain all of this to you. If you feel the enclosure is too small then leave it open a little and let him explore the enclosure if he wants but stop checking and trying to feed all the time or your going to be going backwards.

didnt try feeding it today...........ill leave him alone untill i see him out and about

Im probably seeming like a bit of a weaky, but I just read about if you put the hide at the cool end then he will come out more. i feel bad for him as he cant get comfortable and warm at the same time :/ Will he mind coming out for the heat ? haha

When we say 'leave it alone for a couple of weeks' we mean ignore it, stop lifting things up and opening the clickclack. It should be see through anyway so look and see if it needs water and if it does open up long enough to pour the water and close it. If he is hiding that much he is still insecure and can actually happily go 4 weeks without a feed.

We know it's exciting having a new snake but they aren't like other pets in as far as their confidence and socialising, slowly slowly especially as yours is clearly feeling very insecure at this stage. I actually hung a curtain over the front of my tank for the first four days so that all the movement etc wouldn't stress my Mac after living in a click clack in the breeders shed, then I still left her alone until just over a week later when I fed her for the first time. I didnt handle Skittles until sometime in the third week and only because she showed signs that she was ready to interact for short periods.
