Tyre size ???????

l am looking at a car that has tyres 5.50 x 18 can some tyre person tell me what the 5.50 is in todays terms ?????? ...... cheers solar 17 (baden)

5.5 inch wide on 18 inch rims

hmm. that really does not sound right. if it was an 18 inch rim it would normally be 7-8 inches wide. get the seller to take a pic of the numbers on the tyre. should look something like this 235/45/18 or 205/75/16. first number refers to the width (235) second number refers to the sidewall with (45) and last number refers to the rim size (18).

OK def. not a Morris Minor "NO" and the tyre size is correct they are off a 1948 MK 1V Jaguar with wire wheels .....l honestly don't know the conversion but l was "thinking" like (cement does on APS) but didn't know if my thinking was/is right.......cheers solar 17 (baden)
