Just one of my Tree snakes eats 6 Sword-tails a week, thats at $5 pop lol

Why don't you breed them yourself. My parents have a huge terracotta pot that has being turned into a pond. After our coi died we got some sword tails, 1male and 5 females. They breed like rabbits and soon the pond was home to hundreds. Strangely enough though they didn't eat many of the babies but the females were quite happy to all eat the male after the eggs were fertilized.

Sounds like it'd be cheaper option to get some of the breeders to do a delivery, get some friends together and do a bulk order... because honestly with 14 snakes you'd have enough to do your own bulk order?

yeah pretty expensive i have to get my rats from a petshop:(
expensive as $14 for 1 80-120 gram rat, and 19 dollars for a 3 pack of weanling rats lol i have 14 snakes so the costs add up oh well what can ya do..

I'm hearing more and more about snakes being fed chicken knecks as a diet because keepers don't want to fork out the money for rodents , not good for the snake I'm really not a fan of this diet ( if you can't afford to feed your snake should you really be keeping one?)

Chicken is fine as an occasional food for variety but should not be fed all the time. Rabbit and quail are also good for variety. I save the chicken necks for the dogs though not the snake. :)

Day old chickens haven't had a chance to eat or digest much so the internal organs aren't working. They are fine as a part diet but, one reason for feeding whole food items is to provide a balanced diet including the hormones and trace elements found in the operating organs of living animals.

There was an article regarding day old chicks that was posted on here and was sent to me... I'll post link later when I get on my pc cause it's very interesting reading.... My mate in uk still feeds day old chicks as a main source for his snakes and the odd rat here and there .... Me and me mate used to fly birds of prey and feeding them was the same.... Day old chicks with the odd rat thrown in for full supplement

so i went in to a new large chain pet store today just to look at prices and holy crap!!!!!!!!!!! $24.95 for one yes one jumbo rat!!!! surely this isnt normal???

Yes, unfortunately it can be  Yet they sell a live rat for a pet for $12?

I guess you can liken it to the corner store tho.... you only go to a corner store (pet shop) if you forgot something at woolies (your usual breeder/supplier) and/or woolies is closed.....

I'm in the Campbelltown area if I can help any one out with a feed , pm me for details. Cheers BigBrad

maybe a bit off topic but does anyone keep and breed japanese quails?

If anyone lives in the eastern and south eastern suburbs of melbourne, I have just found a rat/mice breeder that sell them for very good prices compared to what I was paying at a reputable reptile shop. Went today, bought 20 rats ranging from small to fuzzies costing $66. If anyone wants his contact number and e-mail, pm me.

jacks-pythons ..........How can people help u if u have made yur profile without Private messages????????? i know of 2 good breeders in the Smoke

Well !!! i got the shock of my life today, I went to 1 of the newish pet requirements store here in Port Macquarie to find out if they had any frozen adult mice, it was just as well i was using my walker coz i had to have a sit down after i was told the price.......$57.90 for a pack of 5 very small and skinny adult mice. my 1st question was is it a bottomless bag or something but no according to the proprieter they were supplied by a specialist breeder, i told him they all are and my regular supplier (also a large pet supplies store) sold 250-300gm rats for $12.50 each, he then told me i was full of @#*% and his 200-300gm rats were $28.00 ea, suffice to say i did not buy anything and won't ever be going back there.

post script-: my reg supplier did not have any mice and i wanted to start my girl off on some big mice when she starts eating again.
