Differences in V.Gouldii

I have always wondered what the differences are between V.Gouldii & V.Gouldii.Flavirufus. Is it locality or size or colour, something else? Is this species similar to the Tristis sp. where there are varying differences in localities?

I've always been under the impression that Flavirufus are a bit smaller than normal Gouldii. I owned a Flavi and it definitely still isn't the size you would see in a normal Gouldii and it is now an adult.

The flavi's inhabit the arid interior and aren't as big as a gouldii. Perhaps this is an adaptation having less food available and not being at the top of the food chain. (Perentie)
