Picked this young fella up from the airport this afternoon, he is so gorgeous :D abit cranky but thats understandable, so ill let him settle down for the night before i go near him. Ive decided to name him Ozzie since its almost Australia day and he's a native so it fits :)

Thanks. He is purebred, came from a reputable breeder who specialises in pure cockatoo species etc, galahs and majors do look very similar tho. But easily distinguishable. :)

large group of these birds between here and Mildura, love seeing them in the tree's when we are on the road

Awesome, maybe you can teach him to say g'day mate.

Haha yeh maybe, the first thing that i want to teach him after he settles and becomes used to me etc is recall, then maybe shake/wave, aswell as dance to some music etc. :)

Ur lucky Jeannine, i wish they were around here, i would love to see a group of wild majors in the trees or on the ground foraging.

Just don't teach them to scream/squark extremely loudly and wave there head up and down...lesson learnt...

Congrats mate. Its on my list to get one as my grandfather had one for 28 years he got sick then passed away then major went within days.... very loyal birds

How much if you dont mind me asking.... for future reference...

Ive had a sulfer created before and love cockatoos! That's one beautiful looking bird! Good on ya mate!

What a cutie! Prepare yourself for a whole lot of biting and a whole lot of screaming! :p

Our Eclectus is named Ozzy. He's a boy so he is green and his beak is bright gold, so we thought it fit :)

Albino93 we have everything around here lol, you should see the mess in the streets once the corella's attack the trees and drop branches/leaves all over footpaths and roads, up to a few hundred fly over our house every day at dawn to go to the lake to spend the day there and then come back at dusk and man dont they let you know they are about lol

but these Major Mitchells out on the highway are awesome to see because you dont see them all the time and when you do its a bit hard to pull up and grab some photos not to mention we dont pop over the Mildura all the time but if we can ill try to get some photos one day, it just seems to be this one area they live in

Is he going to be just an aviary bird or a pet?

He is going to be an inside pet, i like to interact with my birds, so they become affectionate/tame etc. :)

We usually get over 50 corella's fly over our house around dawn and dusk making all the noise u could ever imagine lol we also get yellow tail blacks in our next door neighbours tree, they eat the grubs from inside the bark. Also get some galahs on the power lines and some sulpher cresteds (dont usually see them unless we drive 10-15 minutes away)
I do have a couple pics but not very good ones lol they are very interesting to watch.
I might have to come up that way one day to see the majors :)

He has calmed down alot since i got him, i can now hand feed him and he allows me to give him a small scratch around the head. Good progress so far. :)
Next thing ill do is try to get him to walk and sit on my hand.

Aww Albino, he's gorgeous! Lil bit jealous right now :p Give him scritches for me!

x

Dont worry, im still jealous of Vampstorso's black cockatoo and Stevo2's macaw lol one day, one day. :D
Will do, he loves head scratches, he's let me do it about 4-5 times now. He doesnt really bite anymore just gives little nips but i say "uh uh" and he'll stop.

Thanks everyone :)
