Just remember that glass filters all uv out and mesh filters a good portion out. So if its a glass lid it the globe needs to be inside

Thats actually not true. Certain glass types can definitely filter UV, like the ones made by automobile companies, but it cant stop it unless you have a special UV preventative glass. Sunglasses for instance, filter the UV so it is not harmful where as regular glasses cant do this.

Yep. You right there. The glass doesn't filter it all out unless it is the specially treated. However it does filter it out so much that as far as the lizards using the uv it make the uv globe sitting on top of the glass useless.

Depends on the strength of the globe. A nice MVB that provides ample UV or sunlight which is much more powerful should penetrate easily.
 
Agreed BWS but the op is talking about an exoterra mini compat top Which takes a max 26w 10.0 that wont penetrate to sufficient levels.
